Probably was a loose or corroded connection or the contact points of the micro switch had some micro corrosion.

Jaygo (SM#224) does have the aluminium control box as described by Bill R. It is very similar to Eric's SM#158. I inspected the micro-switches and they seemed to be clean,

Hi Paul, ours was removed to be replaced with a newer model. It was on insurance so fitters did the job. They cut the external section off and then used a hole saw from the outside to release the thru

SM 224 probably has the early control box with a microswitch inside the control box. If that microswitch is defective or misaligned it will manifest this problem. There were some really good photos

I had an on-demand propane unit in the head on a prior boat. Worked great although the temperature control was a bit coarse. Only a few people were asphyxiated by these units.
