Of course, Danny. I should have perhaps started a new topic. I wasn't suggesting that you should have used a drogue in your situation. Sorry for not being clearer.

Hi Daniel, in my situation a drogue would have been totally out of the question. Imagine the loads with full sail up and 35 knots gusting to ??? and it would not have addressed my problem. Too much

Right Danny, yes. Sails a flogging, of course. Thank you for the in depth explanation.
Regarding broaching. Are there many SMs with Jordan series drogues? Would it be so difficult to mount plates on

no such thing as a silly question. Usually there are a whole lot of other people who are not game to ask it and are so grateful when you do.

Very interesting. Although on my manual furling system: if the "wraps of sail" are thicker then the furling line would not be as highly geared. There would be more rope left on the barrel per turn.

Daniel,
My first real experience with our downwind rig was sailing from Morroco to the Canaries. We were 80 miles off the coast well away from the fishing fleets. Full downwind rig out and the wind

Re: Ballooner or 2nd Genoa
Based on my experience with big boats racing, the APPARENT wind is what matters downwind.
I'll give you an example, you are running at 10 knots, the TRUE wind is 25 knots, your APPARENT wind is 15
