Yes it is possible to remove the assembly while in the water usingthe special Amel tool – there is a file on this in the FILES section written byGary Silver and Bill Rouse

I used the Airmar DST800 NMEA2000 version, plastic; it was a direct drop-in replacement for existing depth-sensor (located in bilge outside the FWD head).
