Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Re: Batteries - What type house batteries to use & what voltage charge from Solar/Wind?
Hi Ian,
We am thinking of solar panels for our 54. Had not thought of pivoting them on the back rails.
Could you send a photo of yours on the back rail.
Thank's and Best

Re: Broken shackle on Main Sail car REPLACEMENT & REPAIR
Hi,
Very nice video. I think that the end rail rubber protection is missing. This accessory limits the shocks at the end of running of the trolley. I replace it from times to times.

I didn’t think of that . I guess I will just stick with a spare shackle
Thanks for the advice.

Steve and Liz,
Well said. Some discussions are too black and white. Ok a shackle should not be stronger than the car but we all know stainless steel shackles vary a lot. 630 stainless has a uts

Have you ever heard of the term "shear pin?" It is a pin in some outboard

You do what ever you want. I am a mechanical engineer. I performed stress analysis and I gave you sound advise.

What about pivotting solar panels on the guard rails outside the aft cabin top rather than need an arch. Say with two decent sized solar panels when using the autopilot a lot under sail it

I am not sure that Amel did or was capable to do that type thorough analysis. I would not hesitate to make the weak link stronger.

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Ha anyone considered a titanium shackle? Broken shackle on Main Sail car
Hi Kent,
you are right. The system will break somewhere else, and will be more expensive to repair/replace.
This is a universal rule in mechanics, and true for many mechanical systems on the AMEL

Earlier someone suggested that the shackle NOT be made stronger than the car so if something breaks it will be the shackle.
