Thanks Alan! I guess I'll try again to get my SSB working. I have an old ICOM 710 that I've spent a good bit on and it has never worked well enough to be useful.

I remove mine most times I haul to thoroughly clean the channel below and polish the cap rail. I have seen no change in its elasticity - it is incredibly durable stuff and, I'm sure, has not

Mike, If the reason to remove then replace the gutter is largely to allow you to paint the rub rail , then I want to say that we painted our rail without removing the gutter . I started at one end

I can't see how that GAM split lead thingo would work.....I looked into it a few years ago, and I had my doubts about it...
So I opted for an insulated backstay which works well.

It has not shrunk... It is meant that way to let the water exit below the gutter, clear of the hull line.. No lines on your hull.
