Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Forestay furling
Herbert,
If you happen to be in Gocek, the mechanics at EMEK know how to do this job. I saw them overhaul another Amel Genoa furler.
While I was there I had them drill and tap my Genoa furler

Thank you Bill,
I removed the motor as far as I could (on anchor, to take the motor out complete I would have to open all the cables) and put some grease in the gearbox, now it is better, maybe only

Re: Topside wood trim - older Maramu
Hi Ross,
As always, Joel's answer is spot on. However what he didn't emphasize was that your "touch-up" idea will be unsatisfying. Any part of the trim with bare wood showing will finish differently

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Older Maramu Bottom Questions
Hi Ross, the ‘tubes’ are dynamic water feeds to the propeller shaft cutlass bearing, to keep cooling water flowing onto the propeller shaft when under way with the diesel. If you turn the device

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Topside wood trim - older Maramu
Hi Ross, when I sold you the boat, it had non-original cockpit wood treatments. The finish on the wood in the cockpit at delivery was Tip Top Teak, a teak oil product. I believe the teak on your boat

Hi welcome to Amel.
Ok the grease is from the lube system for the shaft when free wheeling the prop using the prop shaft alternator.
The indent is part of the dynamic water speed system.

Topside wood trim - older Maramu

Older Maramu Bottom Questions
Hi, Just hauled older Maramu 1989 #261 for paint and zincs. There are two holes just forward of the prop, one on each side of the prop shaft / cutlass bearing that are dripping grease. Can I assume

Wolfgang,
That is very interesting and very insightful. It sounds to me that you are correct! Great troubleshooting! I am sure that other owners with the same Dessalator Duo Water Maker may find this

I think you have a different gearbox than mine, but the answer is surely yes...all gear boxes like grease.
I wonder why it was the bottom bearing that failed. I wonder if the gearbox might

Re: Watermaker Fuse
To your information,
the drawings of Amel say 40 Amp. fuse, on board the original fuse is 60 Amp.
The problem for the shutoff was the kind of fuse - original it is thermal-mechanic working and I

Re: Amel 54 Mainsail Gearbox
For your information,
Amel could not help, so I found someone in a machineshop, who replaced the bearing with
SKF Explorer 6005 -2RSH.
We will see how it works, when we are back in Venice/Italy on

Bob,
In Australia Club Marine or Nautilus are worth a try for quotes. We operate a reef boat in Port Douglas called Wavelength. Like some other commercial marine operators here we use a broker

Hi Bob,
I checked out Pantaneus in Australia and they were expensive and a little restrictive for what I wanted.
I went through a broker...I would shop around if I were you...depending on what you
