Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Re: Rusted Ball of Chain in the Chain Locker
That's the best news I've heard yet, Craig. I think it's my best hope of breaking this rusty ball up.
Thanks again.
Now...how does one get the prop shaft out????

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Prop Shaft Electrolysis
Here is a good company for galvanic isolators.
They also explain how to test for electrolysis on your boat.

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Re: Rusted Ball of Chain in the Chain Locker
Like I said, I reversed the chain a few years ago and rarely ever used the last 100 feet, so unprotected chain sat in that environment for a few years.
I've seen boats at the dock with their chain

Hi Craig,
Thanks for the input. I hate the idea of cutting into the bulkhead, but at least it sounds doable.
So you think the HCl might do the job without hurting anything as long as I ventilate

Thank you Roque,
I will try the heat gun when I get back next week. Electrolysis sounds interesting, but still don't quite understand it.
Thanks again,

I was connected to a 50A 220V outlet with the blue and brown wires connected, the Y/G wire connected to the ground, and nothing connected to the white connector.

If so how did you wire it?
Did you connect the white wire connection to anything?
Do you have an inverter that you connected the

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Digest Number 3386
I've looked at the local big box stores for a "chipper" or electric chisel, but haven't found anything. I'll look on line when I get home tomorrow.
Thanks again ,

Re: Rusted Ball of Chain in the Chain Locker
Kent,
PS - I see several posts are expressing concern about HCl (aka muriatic acid) damaging fiberglass. It doesn't. Think back about glass beakers in chemistry lab, no problemo. Hydrochloric acid

Thanks for your idea Dennis . I've put a lot of tension on it with an extra halyard which doesn't budge it.

Interesting Eric, I've never gotten a year from my zincs. I may have a stray current on my boat. Will have an electrician check it out. Would appreciate any advice on how that is done.
