Re: [Amel] Sun awning for a Super Maramu
I had a three piece awning made in Deltaville, VA by The Ship's Tailor. There was considerable on-site tweaking so I don't know if they would have a blueprint for the finished product.
It was ~$800

I've never been into Facebook. What are advantages over the Yahoo group? I'd hate to have to go to several places to see what has been posted.
Thanks,

Hi all!
If you are on Facebook, do you know that there is a Amel Yacht Owner group there?
At present there are only 22 members but since we are many more Amel owners I thought it could be

Re: [Amel] Re: SSB installation on Amel 54
Yep grab hold when the mike is keyed and if you are lucky you'll only get blistered burn not a black hand. RF at 150 watts is like being inside a microwave oven. When we are going to use the SSB

Hi Peter. DCS comes over the VHF as will as the SSB each by way of the standard antenna. No special one needed.

Re: [Amel] SSB installation on Amel 54
Lior,
Yes the locker opposite the mizzen mast and just in the forward side of that bulkhead.
The wire that comes down the mizzen is a coax. If you earth the coax shield at the tuner, it won't act

It's my understanding that the whip works fine for sending and receiving. I went with the back stay because the whip was in the way when hauling the boat out. One less thing to deal with when

Kent,
Many thanks fir that but question do you also have a whip antenna - which would be for receiving the reply to a DSC distress call?

Re: [Amel] Re: SSB installation on Amel 54
I am using the starbord backstay. There is an "ideal" length for the antenna, seems like I remember 23 ft? That leaves plenty of room to put the lower insulator high enough to keep it out of reach.

That is a very good point about grabbing the back stay - it would be
irresistible.
Thank you

[Amel] Re: SSB installation on Amel 54
I will concede to Eric regarding his experience using a whip antena to transmit from Lisbon to Canada. Another downside to using the mizzen stay as an antenna is that it is hard to resist grabbing on

Here follows a copy of an interesting article about the length of the active antenna above the Automatic Tuning Unit. I personnaly use around 41 feet for my isolated backstay on HamRadio bands.
