A foam luff simply takes out some of the excess material and gives you a better shape. In the early days of furling sailors would throw towels into the genoa. It's important to note that there are two

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Re: Heavy Weather Foresail
Heil we have used super sail in Florida for our heavy weather headsail. It's an 11 ounce hundred and 10% high clue sail. It's used in the Caribbean and areas where we feel the wind will exceed 25 kn.

Re: Heavy Weather Foresail
As a headsail is reefed by rolling it on the foil, it will develop a bulge or bag in the center portion of the sail. The more that it is reefed, the larger will be the bag destroying the sail shape.

Dennis, this may be a perfect question for Amel owner, Dave Benjamin, of Planet Sails to respond to. I can tell you what I noticed, but he can tell why.
Hopefully Dave will read this and

A foam luff seems to help the sail furl more evenly...especially important when reefing a furling sail.

We paid for the foam luff on Hydranet sails we bought in Turkey...well worth it when reefing.

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] CALPEDA AC Pump Gallons Per Minute?
I am fairly sure that the CALPEDA pump ID plate on BeBe #387 reads either 1.5 or 1.8 cubic meters/hour. If it is 1.5 cubic meters/hour, that is 6.6 gal/min. If it is 1.8 cubic meters/hour...if so,

Re: Sharki evaluation
Reinhold,
The most important thing is which boat is in the best condition and has the best history of care. They are all old. If you are thinking a lot about resale value my opinion is any of these

I have the specs for the Calpeda CM-20 Centrifugal Pump Model BMP-35 08.811.203 also called: BCM20E - but I honnestly don't understand it.
If you let me know your email I can send you the .pdf file.
