Re: Head sail furling, Heading to S Pacific
Hi Danny,

Thanks, I’ll experiment a bit and let the group know what I figure out. Yes we are finally starting our SPac cruise, first leg to Turks and Caicos, thru the Caribbean, Belize, Panama, and thru the Canal. Will probably go S this Summer to Ecuador and spend some time in S America, then on to the S Pac next Spring. It seems that no matter how much prep is done, there are always delays like this jib furler problem. I’m trying not to get too frustrated and hope that finances don’t cut our journey short. Iris is a good sport and contributes greatly to my state of mind. She’s also got a great mind for problem-solving and we are becoming a good team. I’m confident we will be in your neck of the woods in a few years as long as the finances don’t give out. All the best, Kent & Iris Kristy SM 243

For tension I could imagine a few wraps on the idle winch and holding the tail in one hand while grinding on the other winch with the self tailer engaged would be the method but of course for me that is but a theory. Meanwhile I have found a push button with rubber cap for 4 Euro plus shipping which I need to replace the Stop Push Button at the Perkins engine panel. I have not received it yet and guess it will be smaller than the buttons at the windlass. So it will fit for the engine panel to stop the engine only. Gerhard Sharki #60

We are making good progress on the pulley project. Attached is a picture of a production prototype of one half of the pulley machined from 6061 Aluminum next to the original cast Aluminum pulley. 316 Stainless Steel material is on order as well as some new tooling for machining Stainless Steel since we mostly machine Aluminum. I will have final pricing tomorrow.

Hi Mark, I add my voice to the suggestion of 316 stainless manufacture.(To the Amel design) I replaced mine with the alloy ones from Amel, only to have one fail again. Strangely, only one side has failed. I will go stainless for any future replacement. Regards Danny SM 299 Ocean Pearl Mangonui New Zealand

Mark,
They are still available through Amel intermittently. The ones that I am making for Cara will be made from 316 Stainless Steel vs. cast Aluminum so they will be stronger to start with and won't have the galvanic corrosion issues the Aluminum ones have. Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Recommendation for an SSB technician in Western Med
Mohammad Shirloo
Hi;
We had an intermittent VHF transmission/reception issue with our ICOM. We had several electronic techs look and non came up with an answer since it was intermittent and hard to duplicate.
We ran into a very old school tech in Malta that immediately diagnosed the issue to a failed filter INSIDE the VHF, replaced it for us and had it back on board in a day and charged us 50 euros for the entire effort.
It’s a day sail to Malta and they have other good services also.
If Malta is too far, we do have a contact in Licata Sicily as well that I found knowledgeable.
Let me know your preference and I will send you the contact information.

My Amel 55 is on the hard in Marina di Ragusa and I'm trying to line up an SSB specialist who can look at my installation this spring/summer as I make my way west in the Med to Gibraltar. I seem to have a lot of RFI from the alternator, Mastervolt chargers, Solar installation, refrigerator etc and I'm also thinking that the grounding isn't the best. Anyone have a recommendation for someone in Sicily, East Coast of Sardinia, Barcelona, Valencia, Gibraltar or in between? Many thanks in advance!
