The threads appear to be intact on this piece, but it's possible they're stripped on the other side still in the mast. It's very hard to see in there. I can't think of any way of applying enough torque to screw it back in, though, since the inner part rotates independently of the outer part, and only the inner part is accessible when it's inside the hole in the mast. Hopefully Amel has a diagram for me. Thanks, Ryan and Kelly

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Toe pulley (headsail) [1 Attachment]

Hey Mike, No pricing info on the printed sheaves...we are getting it done at friend pricing (free), and I don't think it's worth pricing out until we have a successful print and many hours of testing on the boat. I imagine it is cheaper to get this machined, and cheaper still to buy from Amel. (Machine shops around here charge >$100/hr. I've heard of >$60/hr in other locations. And that's not including material costs. I'd estimate 1hr for CAM/setup and another couple of hours for actual machining. Seems like Bill Kinney would have more info on this.) My black ring was held securely in place. The previous owner used silicone, and I had to do some prying to get it out. The inner mechanism (what I called the barrel) popped forwards somewhat even with the black ring in place, which is what caused the gears to no longer mesh. I will try contacting Amel. Thanks, Ryan and Kelly

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Boom crutch?
Use the preventer on the main boom (connected to the mizzen ballooner eye or either of the cabin top cleats) and tie the mizzen boom to the port mizzen backstay.

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Toe pulley (headsail)
Below is what I received today from Maud re: the “Toe Pulley” sheave. Seems like she will be ordering, or has, from their supplier. So for those that are interested, it would seem they will be available from Amel soon(?). May be opportune to get orders in for this batch. Per attached quotation and consistent with Bill Kinney’s post they will be €240 each plus VAT and shipping. Has there been any pricing on the “printed” and/or stainless sheaves? Mike Ondra Aletes SM#240 Rock Hall, MD
Dear Mike, Now that the price estimate is settled I will send you a short message to let you know when they arrive. These pulleys are only made on our specific demand and for our boats so the delivery time is usually several weeks. Have a nice afternoon, With my kindest regards,

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Re: mizzen furler failure
In the photo it looks as though there are threads at the end of the outer housing by the gear? if so could they be stripped?

I don't really know what the answer is, but we had problems with that black ring rotating and becoming loose until I used 5200 to stick it to the housing.
It's possible that the black ring is what holds it all together i.e.keeps the shaft in place.
Olivier would know for sure.....Olivier ?

Stephen Morrison <steve_morrison@...>
Much as Alan suggested, we too keep the boom under tension when not in use. We have added attachment loops as shown in the photos to keep everything out of the way of the side decks. The Main sits centered and the mizzen goes to port.

Hi Ryan, Aletes also suffered from the black ring working itself loose. We drilled and tapped a ¼” hole on either side of the housing and installed set screws to secure the black ring in place. Mike Ondra Aletes SM#240 Rock Hall, MD

VW TDI Amel54
webercardio <webercardio@...>
On the way to GIBRALTAR I was looking for Service my VW TDI on Amel 54.All belts should be changed .It was time for that after 1.300 hrs - recommended after 1.000 hrs. It was not easy to find a VW Dealer and Mechanics who are willing to come in the boat. I found them in Cartagena Spain HUERTAS Motor SL..Qualified service. 2. I had the Problem that with trying to go over 2.300 rpm the Engine felt suddenly back to 1.600 rpm - solution was a little broken tube to the regulator of Turbo. The tube was destroyed by the sharp edge of the white Plastikcover of the Engine. Maybe someone stepped aside- not using the yellow stepmarks. Check this tube and prevent from the sharp edge. Re: House Battery Balancing and Farewell for 2018
Nigel Calder also suggests this.....and it seems like a reasonable idea...but it's a lot of extra cabling, maybe not so different to what we have.
Anything you can do to try to balance the charge / discharge of the individual batteries has to be better than doing nothing. Our experience was that a number of batteries really almost died...and significantly, they were all at the -ve end of the bank...which doesn't make much sense to me as electron flow (as opposed to "conventional current") is from -ve to +ve. However, the battery balancer installation seems to have solved it ....2+ years now and no issues Cheers Alan Elyse SM437

Re: Boom crutch?
We just use the preventer/vang on each boom to hold them steady tensioned against the sheet...the mizzen is the real issue...the car goes tack, tack, tack all night long if you don't tie it down

Re: House Battery Balancing and Farewell for 2018
Hi Alan,
I’ve had a look at the Victron balancer. Interestingly their suggested circuitry for our battery bank involves making an additional (high current) connection between the middle node of each series pair, making a common middle node which is connected to a single balancer. This seems an unusual configuration, but I don’t see why it would not work I’m thinking that this additional connection between the centre/midpoints may well improve things regardless of the connection of the balancer. The undercharged battery will be dragged up by the other batteries which are effectively parallel connected. In effect you could look at this as two parallel banks which are connected in series. The single balancer does the job of keeping the upper and lower banks balanced. I think I like this idea! Cheers Dean

Boom crutch?
smiles bernard
Hello there
So far at anchor I’ve been tying the main and mizzen booms to the side to prevent them slatting about when we roll Does anyone have any other, more cunning solutions ? I helped build a hard Bimini for my brother in laws catamaran a few months ago and we built in a chock for his boom to rest on. I wondered if anyone had considered adding something similar on the Amel hard dodger to rest the main boom into? All the best Miles Maramu 162

Re: House Battery Balancing and Farewell for 2018
Wolfgang,
I noticed your hull number is quite near Stella, do you have the Volvo D3-110 with ZF 25 ‘green’ gearbox? If so, did you check that you have the correct dipstick in the ZF25? There was a thread about it. Cheers Dean

Re: House Battery Balancing and Farewell for 2018
Hi Alan,
Thanks! I will look at those products. Hi Wolfgang, Thanks for the recommendations. We have been sailing the Medsea in our last boat since 2012 and have been to most corners, but have never sailed to Hyeres. I agree the Adriatic area is great, esp the Eastern side, but our personal favourite as a good sailing destination was definitely Greece, especially Dodecanese and Cyclades. We bought Stella last year to continue our cruising this year out of the Med, but too many problems with the boat, hopefully all fixed now :-) Cheers Dean SY Stella
