In case you want to winter boat ashore and are prepared to be on mainland, Cleopatra Marina near Preveza could be an option. I’ve seen between 6 & 9 amels, different models, newer and older, over-winter there these last several year; I’m pretty sure it’s cheaper than Gouvia in Corfu. John

Don't forget about www.yachtclassichotel.com for in the water. Paul, you are close enough to go there and visit with the owner, Banu. Tell her Bill and Judy from Amel BeBe said hello. One winter we were there with 5 Amels and also Russell Crowe. He was on a 24m motor yacht and making a film in Turkey. He had a suite in the hotel, but preferred to sleep in the yacht. We spoke to him almost daily. One last comment on this thread. Opinion: The lowest-priced Amel you can find advertised or through negotiation will be the most expensive. The price you pay for a good Amel will be based on the model, the market, age, and the cost to refit the Amel into good condition. It is math rather than negotiation. I have some things that you can use on my website: https://preparetocastoff.blogspot.com/p/buying-amel.html Download a Sample Estimate Spreadsheet, or all 3 of them. Use a highly Amel-experienced broker. This is NOT someone who sold 4 Amels last year. The same thing applies to Surveyors. Bill

Hi David, Thank you for re-opening my question via this thread with this long (and short) response.
To all: Thanks. These posts are very much clarifying and sometimes reaffirming things I thought already (more or less). Besides chartering sailboats as much as we can we've been "web sailing" and thinking about our first boat for many years now. About two year ago I stumbled upon Amel and found out about the amazing features and design philosophy. Since then our focus shifted, from some of the brands left on our long list as mentioned above, to Amel exclusively. From what I have found they are, in many aspects, the best-fit for what we want and plan to do.
@Paul. I'm confused by your comment mentioning no SM's are for sale in Europe. Quite some SM's show(ed) up on my list of available Amels, starting early 2021. I'm looking at the maintained websites from brokers and have contacted some of them. They (even recently) mentioned the SM's can be viewed now or sometimes towards the end of the season. (You wrote SN, not SM, I assume that was a typo).
Thanks again, Martijn

Hi Everyone
I am now trying to access the broken gear.. which seems to be at the center of it all! After some initial success to work my way through the box, I am now stuck as I don't see any way to arrive to the broken gear. If anyone of you has any additional info or suggestion... I am all ears. John Clark and JOHN HAYES, since you had this job done previously, have you seen how the gears are extracted? Or maybe do you have a contact or an email address where I can ask for additional info? This is where i got so far: I opened all sides (winch handle side, electric motor side, bottom side). The bottom side looks the only way where is possible to extract the gears: Once opened, I manage to extract a bearing, a retaining clip, and another metal ring (spacer?) After that, I have reached the main gear (the one that links to the manual system), which sits around the main furler shaft, which is coupled with a big worm screw that transmits the manual movement from the side. Here I am stuck. To get to the bronze broken gear I need to extract, in order:
GRAZIE! Riccardo

Re: Black Oil in the Air-filter and housing
Hi Nick I will do the Job next 2 day’s when I’m in a Marina and will observe the result. After 2 weeks I’m happy to let you know the outcome because I will not move the boat until end of month. Kind regards Ruedi - on WASABI

Hi Ruedi,
After reading your email I had a quick look at the workshop manual for my D3 110A. I also had a look around the internet. I just thought that before you go and get an engineer you could do a few things yourself. The Pressure Control Valve is located in the cap of the oil filter. The idea is that if the filter gets clocked the valve opens and lets the oil circulate freely but without being filtered. Trawling the internet, there was a suggestion that clogged oil lines and clogged filter might cause oil in the air filter. Seeing as that is an easy do it yourself, it makes sense to do that job first, not least to rule it out as the problem.. Then if that fails you still need to sail somewhere where there is a decent engineer and you can explain that you have clean oil and filter and cleaned up valve…
Let me know what happens. Great learning process for all of us!
Kind regards
Nick

Hi Martin,
We have owned Amels for 33 years, starting with a Sharki, then a Maramu and for the last 22 years a Supermaramu. If we had won a lottery we would still own all three--one in the Med, one in England and one in Chile.
As Nick says, Amels are not a good investment if you are just looking to make money, but they have been the greatest investment we could have ever made in terms of enjoying our lives, taking us to extraordinary places and meeting extraordinary people, many
of whom you will read of on this website but others, equally, who just go their own quiet way.
Owning an Amel opens up a wonderful life long interest.
Bonne chance !

Just a recent experience. We sold our Amel Kirk last winter for the price we paid 15(!) years ago. This was above our asking price. We bought an Amel Sharki and paid the asking price. Both Amels are worth their money. Not only because there aren't too many of them. And there is a reason our new boat is again Amel. We are hooked. Kind regards, Sietske Sharki Frangipane.

Re: VP d3 110 bleeding
To bleed the fuel.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
By the spin on fuel filter there is a big button that you push which pumps the fuel, at the same time open the bleed screw with a spanner or ratchet. I think a 13mm socket but maybe a bit smaller. Keep pumping, fuel will flow out, when it is clear of bubbles tighten the bleed screw. Keep pumping, a few times. Nick S/Y Amelia Leros

It is a good option but I prefered marina di Ragusa in Sicily . More people in winter very secure day and night and fresh underwater sources in marina which means a bottom quite totally clean after 6 months . But Corfu is a good option

Re: D Marin Corfu (aka: Gouvia Marina)
Hey there, are you wintering ON the boat, or just a place to keep her in the water? We spent two excellent winters in Mandraki port, the tiny venetian harbor under the big castle, for pennies. As in one of the cheapest ports in the Med as far as I could tell (1200 euros for 6 months). It doesn't look like much protection, but it is 100 percent safe from all directions. We went through a few 50 knot storms and one 90 knot downburst without any damage to any boat or even much swell, zero surge ever, and the guys who run it are great. They're around every day in winter (it's a sailing club) so your boat is always looked after. There are about 40 boats without owners onboard and usually 5-8 boats living aboard. It's 5 minutes walk through the UNesco castle to get to the center of Corfu; aesthetically it's the prettiest port we've stayed in 5 years on the boat. Andreas is the harbormaster if you call up, tell them Wake sent you ;)

Hello all,
Can anyone comment on whether the D Marin in Corfu is a recommended place to winter a boat? Would anyone also have recommended contacts there? Are there any recommended alternatives in Corfu or nearby? We are looking at the winter of 2023-2024. Paul and Christine Filgiano SV Christine, A55, #29
