Re: Engine troubles in Sardegna
James Alton
Kim,
That is interesting about the different stud spacing measurements, too bad. You might ask Amanda to clarify the measurements on the pump listed below to be sure that it is what you need before ordering. I can tell you that the pump listed below fit a 1983 UK model Perkins and also my 1987 Perkins series 200. If I can help further let me know. If you want to send me your email address I will send you the entire back and forth thread on the pump order, there could be some useful information contained.
Best,
James Alton

Parts4engines stipulates on their website that there are two versions with different measurements.47 and 49 and that they only have 47. Ours is definitely more than 47. What a headache, sorry about that. Cheers Kim

Re: Fridge pump
Hi Den and Julie,
The water lines through the fridge do vibrate a bit, so if they come in contact with a panel on the boat that resonates then you can hear it. However, in your case it's intermittent, so I wonder if there is some debris in your lines which is causing partial blockage and causing the lines to vibrate more. it might be time to flush the lines with something. I do mine with white vinegar, letting it lie for 24 hours before flushing through. To be honest I don't have any clear evidence that it works, other than the fact my lines keep working ok! Other owners use stronger solutions, Barnacle Buster is a product that some folks swear by. I guess it depends on what you can get in Croatia. Cheers -- Dean Gillies SV Stella *****, Amel 54-154

Hey folks quick question. Fresh water pump indicator light hasn't worked on our boat since we purchased it. Bought a new bulb, black and blue wires off the old bulb and onto the new bulb ....and no joy. Any thought on where to go next for troubleshooting? It's entirely possible, if not probable, the actual bulb wasn't bad at all but something in the wiring is off. We have a Flojet pump if that matters at all.

Hi Eric, Yes it fits. It is a very tight fit. I should also tell you I removed the foam and wood Amel had for the Climma unit to sit on. Since the Webasto compressor has a floating mount, this is not needed. You should measure without the wood and foam padding. If you feel the need to dampen the sound, you could use a much thinner rubber pad. I didn't see the need and am happy with the sound level. I think it is comparable to the Climma I replaced. With best regards,
Mark

Re: Zinc Anodes

Ruslan, I use regular R7 zincs—bigger is better. You just drill out the hole a bit and use a grinder on the top to make a flat spot . Easier to get and much more zinc.
I also hang this zinc over the side whenever I am in a marina. The boat next to you might be “hot” this zinc shows a lot of wear and is much better than the normal guppy that is available in most chandleries https://www.boatzincs.com/hanging_anode_zinc.html
I also use this device when I am in a marina to see what the electric is in the water. https://www.boatzincs.com/corrosion-reference-electrode.html

Re: Watermaker membrane
#solution
#replacement
Nice topic. Last week I put the watermaker back into service on my SM #121
(1994). Water looks clean... tastes normal. Not salty. I don't have a portable TDS tester. I just thought: if the water was not good, the orange light should come on and the solenoid valve should dump the water overboard. Also, I have a new SEAGULL IV X1 filter. Do you think it is enough to trust and drink the water ? (actually I already did :p ) I saw the price of new membranes. Maybve it would help to produce more liters/h (but maybe not... maybe the 30L/h were normal for 15°C water), but, I'm not a full time cruiser, so I can wait a bit (specially, like other have mentioned, membranes are overpriced in Europe...)

Re: Saloon 9eh Climma Air Conditioner replacement
For those that are off-grid/energy conscious, I installed the Webasto FCFP6000 units in the fore and aft cabins. They are very efficient and we have run then a number of times on our 3000w inverter. They cool effectively enough (no not a meat locker cold) but cool and dry. Even the aft cabin on a sunny afternoon. And overnight, once they reach temperature they draw only for the fan, and the water.pumo is only on when the compressor cycles on. It's good to hear that the 10,000 but unit fits in the main salon. I think that would be more appropriate for that spot. Regards, Daniel and Lori Carlson on sv BeBe, SM #387

Re: Watermaker membrane

Yesterday I saw a new Steyr MO144M38 engine advertised on China.com for 5000 €. Of course, it was FAKE. Although there are good sources in China, there are a lot of people that are highly skilled in taking advantage of those looking for a bargain. As far as I know, there is one manufacturer of membranes in the world. DOW Filtec makes very high-quality membranes using robotics. Before DOW bought Filmtec there was very few robotics involved in the manufacturing. I assume that some entity in China could manually lay up membranes, but I doubt that they will get to Filmtec's quality. Also, make sure that the Filmtec number starts with "SW" which designates saltwater. I saw some BW30-2540 advertised from China.com. BW is for brackish water. WARNING: These have a shelf life. If someone is selling you a bargain be sure you determine that it was made within 6 months and is in its original packaging. From Filmtec: "Wet elements are bagged in a durable, oxygen-barrier composite plastic bag and the preservative solution is delivered prior to vacuum sealing. Precise preservative volume and high bag integrity help ensure a stable preservative environment during transportation and storage." Regrettably, there is significant profit taking by some resellers of Filmtec's membranes. You should price shop. I believe that you should not pay more than 275 € for the following Filmtec membranes: SW30 2540 SW30-2521 Here is a US distributor who is a Yacht School Preferred Vendor: https://preparetocastoff.blogspot.com/p/airwaterice.html

Re: Fresh Water Indicator Light on 24vdc panel (SM2K)
I think I know why. I am betting that the original pump has been changed. The + wire to that light was connected to the SQUARE D pressure switch. The - 24v was connected to the negative bus on the back of the 24v breaker panel.
