Bill,

That would be great.  I thought about that kind of construction and was wondering how to attach it.  Magnets sound like a good idea.  The frame would have to be pretty thick at the thumbwheels  to use them to hold it in place.

I also have a photo of my auxiliary fuel tanks (75 gallons) that are in my port outboard locker.

If you are interested please send me your email.

I also have photos of the install of my espar heater and the conversion of the dishwasher to a top loading refrigerator.

Bill,

I am fine with heel when the boat is sailing, but I find a static heel at anchor or dockside to be quite annoying personally so I tend to do a lot of moving things around when needed to level the boat.  Heeling to windward in light air on the stb. tack really feels really strange to me.  (grin) It is so great that Amel put the water on centreline so that as it is consumed or filled, there are no heel changes.  A symmetric solution for fuel so that consumption or refilling would not change the heel of the boat would be nice to have I think.  I am considering an auxiliary tank to Port to partially accomplish this and extend the range a bit.

I suspect we have different denunciations of what constitutes a "little" heel! Any deviation from even trim I consider unacceptable for sailing performance, especially in light air. Of course if you feel you need 120 gallons of extra fuel you might not be doing much light sir sailing!

If you boat does not heel to port when you put over 600 pounds on the port side she must heel to starboard when that fuel isn't there. Just rules of physics!

Thanks Alan. The shields I'm looking at go on the outside of the port so an exterior "outside" dimension would be helpful if possible.

Do you or anyone on site know if the size of a super Maramu galley port is the same as the Maramu?

Thanks again.

Re: bug screens for small portholes

Our boat came with two sets of screens. The original from the manufacturer, (which kind of, well, more than kind of, suck) and a much, much, much nicer set designed and built by Harmonie's previous owner.

The better set were made with two frames cut out of plastic that are glued together with the screen sandwiched in between. That assembly in the held in place with small but powerful magnets set into the window frame.

I'm away from the boat for a few days. I'll post pictures when I get back.

Hi All,

I thought this might be helpful if you have major service in Martinique.  The Martinique Cruisers Association recently put out a guide clarifying how to have your vessel related purchases exempted from VAT and a few other taxes.  I pasted a link to their FB page below.  I will upload their document to the files as well.

It costs a bit to get the exemption, but once in place it is good for any purchase you make related to the vessel.  I had a complete rerigging performed while here (about 10,000 euro) and also purchased a few thousand in Amel spare parts recommended by Jean Collin the Amel service center here in Le Marin, so it was a no brainer for me.   Essentially any boat related purchase is covered.  In the process, you receive a duty free number that you present to the vendor and voila!  no tax!

Apparently I was the first Amel customer to do this.  Jean had to call the customs broker to verify it was legit and how to actually execute the process..  Jean came to the boat the next morning with a big smile on his face to tell me it was all good.  This was the first time Amel had done a VAT free transaction here.  I think there will be more VAT free Amel purchases in the future.

Caraibe Marine one of the the service providers for Amel already knows about the process and had no issues applying the exemption.

I glued the sticky part of velcro inside the frames and just attach a soft mosquiro net fabrics to the velcro.
Very convienent in the porthole in galley since it is so easy remove the net and put it in the washer when dirty.

How did you balance the weight of 75 gallons (over 500 pounds) of diesel that far outboard on the port side?

I ask because I am in a constant battle to keep Harmonie from heeling to port, and I have nowhere near that much weight to port!

The pilot berth's opening port's weather stripping has hardened and now seeps when drenched. Does anyone have a source for new weather stripping of that type, size and shape?

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] bug screens for small portholes

Bill & Judy Rouse <yahoogroups@...>

You can probably buy them from Goiot. If you can find them, they are over 100 euro each.

You can probably fabricate some with a 5/16" window screen kit by ScreenTight from Home Depot and use some rubber gasket material for the rounded corners of the port opening.
