I purchased end caps for the mizzen traveler from Amel.
They are Lewmar part number 29171040 and were a perfect fit
for my hull # 335 SM.

At the same time I purchased the Amel proprietary jib car
traveler pulley at the bottom of the crank. They come in
two pieces, each side, as I recall.



Sorry I don't have prices but the stops for the mizzen
traveler were cheap and the metal pulleys were in the $150
US range (again from memory). I had them shipped with a lot
of other items that were quite heavy so the usual high
freight charges were included. As these two items are light
I would think they wouldn't be too expensive to have
shipped.

Brush size for Leroy Somer main sail furler motor

Hi all,

I have ordered some brushes for my main furler and outhaul motors by giving Maud the motor model numbers. However, she says she need to know the size of the brushes. Can someone help as I am far from my boat?

My Leroy Somer motor is type "MBT86 M". The boat is Super Maramu hull #419 built in October 2003.

I never use the bowthruster when the
engine is not running.  The alternator is more than enough
to keep the batteries up.

Ok let me clarify that immediately. 

Last year while on our search for a 54 in the med we visited one of the first ones to be built. When showing us the bow sail locker where the bow thruster is encased, the guy (not the owner, the broker rep) told us that Amel fitted a big red emergency circuit breaker on later versions of the 54 following a few incidents whereby the relay melted and the bow thruster would drive the boat into a spin at a rather unfortunate moment. And that was due to low voltage on the batteries leading to high current to deliver the power. The conclusion given was; Always run the gen and 100A charger when running the bow thruster. 
When finally onboard our own (a later version) we had enough stuff to work out to experiment the reality of that lesson. I did wonder why the alternator wouldn't be enough to feed the power to the thruster, but figured that maybe the low power from the engine in neutral/dead slow was the explanation. 

I'm obviously very happy to have misunderstood the whole thing and happy to relegate this idea in the myth department.

My first post,hello all

 

We are currently looking for a new to us sailboat and 3 Amel models are on the short list,the Sanitorin,Maramu and Super Maramu.  All of our interest from these and Amel in general has come from magazines, blogs ,forums and sailboat listings.  We are from Wisconsin and unfortunately we have not run across any on these waters yet.  My question is are there any Amel's on the Great lakes preferably Michigan?  We would love to get up close and confirm we are on the right path.  Thank you
