Hi Craig,
Thank you for your answer, I am thinking to follow your installation, can you send me some pics of your solution?
Thank you a lot.

Hi Antonio, On our
Santorin we kept the original Perkins water/diesel separator
and added the Parker Racor fuel between that and the engine.
That way you do not disturb the line to the Espar heater and
you retain the water-in-fuel electric warning sensor that is
in the original separator, which will light a warning light
on the engine control panel.
That being
said, I see no problem with your installation. The Espar
pump is such a low volume pump that I can't see it
sucking fuel from the engine side, which is totally closed.
And, if it is running when the engine is running it would
still not draw from the engine side.

Cheers,
Craig Briggs, SN#68 Sangaris

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Raymarine Autopilot problem

Paul, Totally agree about checking connections before condemning the autopilot. Include breaker and battery switch. Did you check voltage with autopilot load applied? That is, attach your multimeter to the leads going to the autopilot motor, then turn on the autopilot and initiate a 30 degree or so turn and read the voltage while the autopilot motor is running.

Re: Raymarine Autopilot problem

Alan Leslie

It could be that the gears in the drive have failed...something is putting a lot of load on the drive to cause the over current situation...it is more than likely something to do with the linear drive and / or motor
You will have to dismantle it to find out

Where are you ?

Is it likely there is a Raymarine technician nearby ??

Good luck

Gary,
I
replaced mine with the 5124 and as per Bill's
instructions it works fine. However when I was in
the process of investigating this, the ifmefector folk sent
me 2 documentsOne is a data sheet for the IB5076
and the other is called IB5072 installation instructions
which contains data which is generic for their inductive
sensors (doesn't mention and numbers), including
alternate wiring diagrams for 2 and 3 wire
sensors. Is this useful ? If so, I can send them
to you.

Hi Gary
the information you posted in 2011

seems to indicate that if you connect the output to either + or - you get NC or NO operation....
In any event we did what Bill suggested and it's been working fine for 4 years now.

Gary,

I have the number of the sensor that I use to replace my burned out one . Unfortunately it is on Kimberlite in the Caribe and I am in NY.

If you don’t get the number by April 19. Please send me a note and I will send you the number.

Hi fellow Amel Owners:

I have reviewed the most recent discussions about replacement of the inductive chain counter sensor on the SM windlass.   By the way per the manufacturers specification sheet the MTTF (mean time to failure) is 1076 YEARS,  I don't think so.  At any rate the last time I replaced mine was 8 years ago using the then available IB5076 sensor.  I am aware that the IB5076 originally used by Pochon is no longer in production.  It was a three wire, cable-lead, DC NPN (transistor type), 34 mm diameter by 72 mm length sensor who's output functor is "Normally Closed".    There are several alternatives available:

IB5072  which is identical to the original but it is a "Normally Open" output function.

AND

IB5124 which is identical to the original except it is a two wire unit that has terminals rather than a cable for connection (posing a bit of a sealing issue), is listed as "normally open/closed programable"  (whatever that means) and that Bill Rouse of BeBe indicates he has installed leaving the brown wire disconnected and it works.

I suspect that the Pochon display just counts plus and minus pulses and it really doesn't matter if it is normally open or normally closed, but rather just each change in voltage will trigger the counter display.

MY QUESTIONs:

1.  Has anyone installed the IB5072 inductive sensor (three wire) and can report on if it functioned normally?  I need feedback specifically on the 5072  sensor.

2.  Does anyone have a schematic or wiring diagram for the original three wire hook up as installed by Pochon?   I am curious why they had three wires when it seems the brown wire isn't needed or is tied to the black wire (both being L+) per the Efector diagrams.

As usual we are here trying to reverse engineer this system a bit.

Hi Mark,
I just ordered the brushes for my Leroy Somers furling motor ( SM 150).
Maybe it´s the same size. I found a shop in Germany and bought four of them for 58,52 EUR.
The shop is:     J. Mack GmbH & Co. KG
                        Gießener Str. 49
                        D-35305 Grünberg
Contact:          info “at” mack-kohlebuersten.de
Phone:             0049 – ( 0) 6401 210 6090                Fax:     0049 – ( 0 ) 6401 4910

The size of the brushes I bought is 16 mm x 6 mm x 22 mm.
There is a website under www.mack-kohlebuersten.de where they offer all sizes of brushes.

Maybe I can order the brushes for you and bring it to Carloforte end of April.
But you have to send me an e-mail, soon, because ordering the brushes needs about 2 – 3 weeks.

Hope this helps, see you soon

Hi all,

I have ordered some brushes for my main furler and outhaul motors by giving Maud the motor model numbers. However, she says she need to know the size of the brushes. Can someone help as I am far from my boat?

My Leroy Somer motor is type "MBT86 M". The boat is Super Maramu hull #419 built in October 2003.

Thanks.

The Santorin galley port is the same size as the SM. It may be no use for you but perhaps someone else - I had a mould made for one in Trinidad at Peakes boatyard, a fibreglass chap in a shed at the back of the yard. He still has the mould. I know Amel no longer have them or a mould.
Maybe a local fibreglass place could also make a mould. I paid for two (one for the aft heads & galley) and told him to hang on to the mould and check every Amel that arrived! I should have bought the mould off him too!

Re: Tiny lights on 24V panel

Rink De Haan

Hello all,

I just ordered a couple of lights from Amel.

Maud send me this info:
Please find here attached a photo of the green and red light indicators.

The price is 5.90 euros/unit without taxes and without transport. The dedicated 24V 1 W light bulbs are also available. They are supplied in bags of 10 (17.20 euros without taxes and without transport.
I am very sorry but the light for the gas is not available from us anymore.

See photo attached. If these are the same lights they are not expensive.

Regards,
Rink
