Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Connector at the water pressure Tank
Bill Kinney <greatketch@...>
You have a pipe “elbow” that for some strange reason was drilled and tapped to turn it into a pipe cross. As you discovered, this is not a good idea. You need a real standard pipe “cross” and a reducing bushing or two to fit the pressure gauge, pressure switch, and tubing fitting. It could also be done with two tees if a cross is hard to find. Two “tees” might also give you some flexibility in orientation that will make things easy to assemble. This isn’t something you need to go to Amel for. Brass or PVC would be suitable choices for material and your corner hardware store will likely have the parts.

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Connector at the water pressure Tank
Mohammad Shirloo
Thanks Bill for the prompt response, as always.
The main issue I currently have, is the brass fitting at the supply side of the water pressure tank. Some one has just taken a 90 degree brass fitting, drilled two holes on the sides and tapped the brass fitting in order to attach the water pressure gauge and the water pressure switch. As you can imagine, the thickness on the side of this fitting only allows for two or three turns to be tapped which have now stripped. I do have a marked up picture of the existing that I have e-mailed to Amel. I had also downloaded the picture you had posted from your Super Maramu and have sent both to Amel. I will post these pictures for reference. If some one has an unmodified Amel 54 fitting and schematic diagram, it would definitely help Thanks Mohammad and Aty B&B Kokomo Amel 54 #099 |

David,
I agree with the preemptive approach. With the handrails I am unclear on how they are fastened. Are there nuts under the headliner or???

I've heard that attending to this should not be ignored, and that
thereafter regular maintenance every ? years to re-bed the railings
to minimise the chances for moisture ingress. Like the bow-thruster or windlass, if not attended to, then it can be really hard to make right. But with pre-emptive maintenance, things go easier. The reason is that the rails are
affixed internally to an iron sub-structure, and if moisture gets in,
then the results are inevitable.

Hello,
I was hoping that someone might know how the stainless tubing forming the handrails on the cabintops is fastened down? I have some rust in the area that the handrail sits on the fiberglass in a couple of places so I am concerned that moisture is being held in those areas. I do not have any obvious leakage below at all.
Thanks,

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] sea wather from bow-thruster
Bill & Judy Rouse <yahoogroups@...>
James, Great! I am glad that you found the patience. Your bow thruster may have been one of the more difficult ones with all of the layup time. So the next time someone says that they are going to do something foolish, I am passing the baton to you to tell them what to do. Service every two years is sufficient...no need to service every year. One thing that you may want to consider is obtaining or making an Amel in-the-water tool for removing the bow thruster in the water. I have one and have used it once on BeBe and several times with other Amels. Bill BeBe 387 On Mon, Oct 10, 2016 at 2:21 PM, lokiyawl2@... [amelyachtowners] <amelyachtowners@...> wrote:

Mohammad, Since Amel installed at least two different systems, it may help if you start with a photo of yours or the brand of the pump. It may even be possible that none of what you have is Amel installed because possibly the previous owner changed everything in the fresh water system. Also, if you will go to the Photo section of the Amel Group website and search on "fresh water" you will see 4 or 5 photo albums of what you are asking for. Here is a link that will get you there including the search: https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/amelyachtowners/search/photos?query=fresh%20water I am including a link to one of the photo albums: https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/amelyachtowners/search/photos?query=fresh%20water#zax/albums_364756240 Bill BeBe 387 On Mon, Oct 10, 2016 at 2:11 PM, mshirloo@... Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] sea wather from bow-thruster
James Alton
Bill,
I wanted to update you to let you know that I was able to separate the motor and foot of my bow thruster using your suggestions of patience, gentle tapping and lots of penetrant. My boat as you know sat for quite a number of years and it is unclear when the bow thruster was last serviced which I am sure was a factor in the buildup of corrosion. I plan to remove it each year to check the condition of the lubricant and clean up and grease the corrosion prone areas. I was quite impressed with the design and the construction of the Amel bow thruster and am so glad that my boat is equipped with one as it is quite effective. Very kind of you to take your time to help those with questions.
Best,
James Alton

Connector at the water pressure Tank
Mohammad Shirloo
Hello every one; On our Amel 54, it appears, that the original fitting at the output of the water pressure tank was replaced with another make shift one that has now failed. This would be a brass fitting that attaches to the water pressure tank's output and would have the water pressure gauge, the water pressure switch and the water supply line attached to it. It would really help if some one can e-mail or post a picture of the actual factory installed unit so I can see what the original fitting looks like. Also if some one can assist on the best place to source this fitting, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you Mohammad and Aty B&B Kokomo Amel 54 #099 |

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Lofrans Windless rubber caps for control button
Bill & Judy Rouse <yahoogroups@...>
Mark, At Budget Marine, the AAA/10206 looks to be, and measures exactly the same as the Amel installed switch. It is made of marine brass and plastic and sells for about $24USD. The Trinidad Budget Marine did not have one in stock here in Trinidad, but did have the AAA/10208 which is a plastic version for about $3.50USD. I emailed this to the group and I cc'd you directly with a photo of the AAA/10208 side-by-side with an Amel supplied "used" switch. I think that if I were you I would buy 6 of the AAA/10208 and replace the entire switch when the rubber gets old. I will upload the photo for the rest of the group in a few minutes. Is there anything else I can do for you? Bill, BeBe 387 On Sun, Oct 9, 2016 at 12:16 PM, Bill & Judy Rouse <yahoogroups@...> wrote:
