Isn't it the one going to the light on the 24 Volt panel?

Today I change the original fresh
water pump, with a Jabsco Par Max 4, not a big deal, but to
my surprise there was three cables to the old pump, One blue
negative one brown positive and a thin black wire also
negative. Both the Blue and the thin Black cable was
connected to the same terminal on my old pressure switch on
the old pump. My question for what purpose does the black
wire have?Paul on S/Y Kerpa

Hi

Could it be for the light on the switch panel to indicate the pump is on?

I can recommend North Beach Marine Canvas, in San Francisco.  Not cheap, but she does excellent work.

I have no idea if she will work “remotely” but probably worth a phone call.

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Upgrading all electronics

rossienio@...

Hello Kent, My Sterling is the Procharge N, only charger. It has been installed a lot time ago, but I have seen the problem only now, touching the mooring, wet of salt water while connected to the shore power of the marina, with the battery charger on.
I have measured the voltage leak with the tester on AC (3V) and on DC (2,5V) connecting metallic part of the boat with sea water. Only when the B.C.  on.
I have isolated the generator ( all wires in and out disconnected),  but the phenomenon is still present.
Could you suggest me a kind of charger compatible with the Amel isolated ground system?
Now I'm using only solar panels but it is not enough. Thanks Enio

Re: Rollbar stability

Stefania and Dietmar,

Welcome. Your arch looks very neat. To reduce flexing you could easily add some braces inside the top corners. An easy way would be to use short lengths of  matching stainless tubing with stainless clamps made for biminis or guardrails and use on maybe just the aft pair of pillars so you don't need some welding.

freight cost

Danny and Yvonne SIMMS

Hi all,
I have had some success in finding a gearbox and gearbox parts for our main furler. Parts from Amel Carribes and a full gearbox from Riza at Emek.
However the freight from Riza to Fiji is horrendous. The gearbox is 920 euro. The freight by UPS which Emek say is the best deal is 560 euro.
Anyone have comments or a better way to freight? Last question. Emerson in Australia want to quote but are asking details of the motor. My decals are mostly illegible. They are asking for the size of the motor and the frame number. Can anyone give me the motor details
Regards (not cheers this time)

I think that is pretty normal, we get 4-5 liters depending on the temperature of the oil.

Hello!

When I change oil in my VP TMD 22, I never get out more than ca 4 liter, The manual say 6 liter.

I use the on purpose "fixed" oil change pump, What do I do wrong? or is it similar for you others with the TMD22?

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Changing oil VP TMD22

Alexandre Uster von Baar

Similar for me Paul,

But I unscrew the oil plug “under” the engine block and am able to get a little more, therefore still not the entire 6 liters.
I am able to bring yogurt or sour cream can with covers forward of the transmission Amel Drive.
If you decide to remove the oil plug under the engine block, it is likely to be secure with wire, make sure to add some.

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Rollbar stability

Hello Stefania and Dietmar,

Welcome!  There is much knowledge in this group and you will find answers to most of your questions.

We have an SM with 3 solar panels with 450W total capacity built atop a gantry which forms a davit for dinghy transport. (in light weather)  Our arch is mounted with the front attachments on the aft part of the railing and the rear attachments are attached on the outer beam of the skirt.  Additionally, we have twin cross bars bracing the structure to a reinforced center candle on the base of the deck.  It adds considerable rigidity to the entire structure.  Safe design.

As an opinion, unless your panels are small capacity, you may have added too much weight aloft for the structure to remain stable and rigid.  If this is the case, you could reduce the number of panels to 3 or resort to a bracing system of applicable design.

Other members will be along soon to add to the topic.

Good luck.

Hi guys! We're new in the group and we hope someone could help us.

We've a Santorini; we let doing a rollbar in order to hold 4 solar panels and a wind generator. Aesthetically it's very nice. But if you scroll it, it swings ; the blacksmith says that's the normal steel torsional elasticity. We're afraid it could damage the washboard, because the arch is based on it. We will send also some photos to show you how it works. If some engineer would help us...

Haven't seen pics. But common with open fisherman.  Bad design you should add 45 degree legs mounted inwards. Your deck bolts will end up ripping out. My humble ingnorant opinion.

Enio,

It sounds like your galvanic isolator is connected correctly. In that case it will not cause nor will it fix this problem.

Not that long ago, Olivier posted an excellent summary of how battery chargers need to be connected, and how they should NOT be connected.  A search of the forum will find that and I think it will be very helpful for you.

Pay attention to Kent’s warnings, You do not want to duplicate his experience with electrolic corrosion!

I suspect the issue is the battery charger’s internal wiring.  If you follow the testing in Olivier’s posting that will tell you.

Thank you Bill, now  I'm  tryng  to give you more informations.
I think it depends of my boat because the phenomenon  has been  detected  in 2 different marinas.
Measuring in AC the Volts are 3,10V with  the Battteriy Charger connected and 0.30V with  the Battery C.. off, In DC the  volts are 2.3V with B. C.  connected and 0.8V disconnected.
I think  the guilty is the Battery .C. because, if I exclude it, the phenomenon ends.
The Ground isolator is connected between shore power and general input switch of AC in the boat.

It's mandatory to connect the ground nipple of the carcass of the Battery Charger to the groung system of the boat? The engeneer who installled the new Batteruy Charger  didn't make  that connection, must I do it?

Thanks again for your advices. Good winds.  Enio

Hi Paul,

Sorry to have missed you when you were in Palma… we were only 3 NM away in Portals Nous bay but had poor internet and could not communicate.  We are headed west as well and expect to be in Gib on 12 Sep + or -..  (Booked at Ocean Village Marina)  We expect to leave for Madeira on 18 Sep and spend nearly a month touring the island.  See you on the ATL.

I normally get about 5 liters out of mine, using a Pela vacuum pump of 6 liter capacity.  (Pela Model 650) (don’t get the smaller units as they do not have sufficient volume for our uses) I like the Pela because you can leave it in place overnight with a good vacuum suction and you have nothing other than the (messy) filter removal and replacement in the morning .

Cheers and fair winds,

Hello!

When I change oil in my VP TMD 22, I never get out more than ca 4 liter, The manual say 6 liter.

I use the on purpose "fixed" oil change pump, What do I do wrong? or is it similar for you others with the TMD22?

'81 Mango dinette cushion replacement

I have a Mango that is in need of a high quality dinette cushion set.  I have had a tough time finding a local source. Does anybody have a good vendor that could potentially do this replacement remotely?  I live in Southern California.
