Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Bow thruster repair
sailormon <kimberlite@...>
I do not have the sizes of the lip seals as I am not on the boat. However there should be a lip seal at the top of the bow thruster trunk. Also 2 foam seals and 2 neoprene seals neoprene outside and foam inside. Additionally there should be a lip seal behind the thruster propeller.
I know I have seen the sizes listed here on the site. I have a copy of an order that I made for the entire boat but I did not specify which was which on the order.. I suggest you look at the site.
I am sure Bill who is on board will give you the sizes later this morning. Fair Winds Eric Kimberlite Amel Super Maramu #376

I have looked att the files concerning repair of the bow truster, but I can't find what size/specification of the lip seals. I urgently need to get hold of new lip seal especially for the side where the propeller are, but when working on it better to fix both side. Does any one know the part number or specification for those? An other question there should be a lip seal where the bow thruster shaft pass the hull, but as the hole is large enough for putting tape on the shaft when lowering it when in water, Can that lip seal do any good? Hi Kent, I was thinking of replacing my engine mounts. You made a disk to align the engine. Do you have a drawing of it? I would like to make on. Fair Winds Eric Kimberlite Amel Super Maramu #376

Kent, Same thing here , I had the original mounts , which I just replaced a few months ago. I definitely have less vibration thus noise than before. Pat SM #123
-----Original Message-----
I had the original Vetus mounts with my factory Volvo TMD. They were really bad after 12 years. When I repowered I used the Yanmar recommended mounts per Olivier's recommendation.
I guess I didn't realize how be the old mounts were, there is less engine noise and vibration than there's been since I bought the boat. Kent SM 243 Kristy

Our 1985 Maramu "Chara" has a Rocna 33 and I needed to extend the anchor roller to make it fit properly. I've been happy with the holding. Bob On Feb 13, 2016, at 12:24 AM, jjjk12s@... [amelyachtowners] <amelyachtowners@...> wrote:

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] 12V & 24V receptacles
sailormon <kimberlite@...>
The 12 power is supplied by a converter in the cubby behind the aft door under the nav station. There is also a circuit breaker in the wet locker on the forward side that turns on the nav station. Sorry, I don’t know where the 24 volt plug is powered. Fair Winds Eric Kimberlite Amel Super Maramu #376

Subject: RE: [Amel Yacht Owners] Onan shuts down "Fault Breaker" (CB5) To: amelyachtowners@... Date: Friday, February 12, 2016, 4:12 PM Alexandre, Yes. Carbon will build more rapidly on a diesel engine that is operated at lower RPMs or load. Regarding the wiring of the BlueSea 8731, it is wired to the 220 breaker panel. From the generator and shore power these are switch by a mechanical contactor (in the engine room behind the genset). From this switch you have a main cable that feeds the 220 volt panel. Where this main cable on the 220 volt panel is connected is where the BlueSea connects (the doughnut shaped current load sensor is also located here). Thus it will measure whatever is coming into the panel, whether it is genset or shore power. Subject: RE: [Amel Yacht Owners] Onan shuts down "Fault Breaker" (CB5) Dear Mark, Gary & Eric, Mark & Gary, thanks for the link for the BlueSea monitor how is the wiring on theso that you can monitor the genset load? Will carbon build up appear below or above 75-80% ? (I suspect below) Gary, I am having a little problem to see which picture it is on: https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/amelyachtowners/photos/albums/1219017177/lightbox/412042190?orderBy=ordinal&sortOrder=asc&photoFilter=ALL#zax/412042190 Also, I suspect something faulty… as I thought the side breaker would pop first. For information: twice the genset stop running: 60 Amp battery charger (batteries 99% full) Washer 3 x Air Conditioning. When removing an air conditioning, all ok. Once running: 60 Amp battery charger (batteries 99% full) Scuba Compressor 220 Volt Water Maker (60 liter version) 1 Air Conditioning. The genset stop while the scuba tank was getting full (I would assume more demand on the compressor to finish to fill up the scuba tank) I remove the Air Conditioning and it was ok. realistically I am going to order the parts now for when I will be in Puerto Rico (May or June?) then install then. Also thanks for confirming the Exhaust Mixing Elbow being PN 155-3261-02 (E086) as well as gasket part number and recommendation on permatex. Hello Eric, I would love if you could please email ms: user at rocketmail doc com the picture/wiring. When I plug on shore power, I first start with the “outlet” and make sure that my 220 volt lights are working, then I switch on battery charger make sure it is working, etc. I am aware of the timers, I think it is a good idea, I still just start one at the time and wait for the compressor, etc. Thanks again for your great help! -------------------------------------------- On Fri, 2/12/16, 'Mark Erdos' mcerdos@... Hers is a link to the BlueSea meter. https://www.bluesea.com/products/8247/AC_Digital_Multi-Function_Meter_with_Alarm I am wondering if you have a faulty CB on the aft port side of the genset (the line CB) that isn't opening as it should. On mine if I overlaid the genset that line breaker opens and the genset does not shut down. On my boat, I can charge batteries and make water, or make water and run an air conditioner or two. If the batteries aren't too low then I can eek out water making + battery charging + 1 AC unit. Let us know what you find. Sincerely, Gary S. Date: Friday, February 12, 2016, 12:15 PM I have the same BlueSea monitor. It is very easy to work and we use it whenever we plug to shore power BEFORE turning on anything. It is programmed to alarm at <205 VAC and >245 VAC. We can also monitor the load on the genset as we try to run it at 75-80% capacity to avoid carbon buildup. Subject: Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Onan shuts down "Fault Breaker" (CB5) Hi Alexandre: Here is a link to the "multimeter" setup I have on my boat. (Pic as noted by Eric) https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/amelyachtowners/photos/albums/1219017177/lightbox/412042190?orderBy=ordinal&sortOrder=asc&photoFilter=ALL#zax/412042190 Similar concept to what Bill Rouse has. It shows, Watts, Volts, Hertz, and Amps. Nothing like having this data for managing load on the genset and diagnosis bad/good shore power. Re: What size of anchor Rockna for Maramu.
mkbiz@...
I use a Rocna 33 on my Maramu #148 and have no complaints so far. Yes, it looks sooo big in the shop, but you hardly notice it when mounted.
It settles quite well into the standard roll, though you might want to put some padding at the middle rod of the puplit, where it comes into contact with the anchors roll-bar. Michael |

The new platform looks stable, easy to use, easy to search, and with articles generally well-classified by section (the poster chooses where to post).

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Bottom paint
Andrew & Kate Lamb
We tried to get someone in France to do the "hydro gommage' but we could not find anyone to do a boat as the boat would have to be put in a special part of the yard and surrounded by plastic - their enthusiasm quickly went when they realised this! In the
end we hand scraped the bottom this took seven days of hard work for two people and two days sanding off the initial grey primer with fine sand paper.

Jean-Paul,
I have a Manson Supreme 60lb. Similar to Rocna - fits ok, just touches the pullpit upright when stowed. It's a very good anchor.
This topic has come up before, try searching through conversations. There's a Maramu called Chara that has a 33kg Rocna and most likely several others.

[amelyachtowners] Hello Warren, the barrier that AMEL spreads while manufacturing the hull is made of isophtalic polyester resin with 1-2 mm glass scales. It is put just after the gel-coat is spread into the mould. AMEL started this process in 1987 as some boats made in Europe were starting to get "blisters" on the outside of the hull, under the gel-coat. However, your Sharki may have never suffered "blistering". Don't use too powerful high pressure machine to wash your hull (maximum 80 bars) as this is a major cause for starting blistering and osmosis. Good luck for your hull works. Olivier. [amelyachtowners] Eric, I had BeBe hand scraped, then sanded in 2011. The original bottom paint was an International hard paint. There was no barrier coat because it is not needed on your Super Maramu as Amel has a propriety osmotic coat beneath the gelcoat... I have always used International Micron 66 or Micron 77. I do not believe Micron 77 is available in the US or any country influenced by what the EPA allows...I have seen it here in Martinique. FYI, the EPA has not approved a single new bottom paint in the last 7 years (politics). Micron 77 is better than 66 because you can take 77 into fresh water...77 becomes inert after too much fresh water. Bill BeBe 387 On Fri, Feb 12, 2016 at 10:15 AM, sailormon kimberlite@... Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Re: What size of anchor Rockna for Maramu.
Hi JP, I had two nearly disastrous experiences coming unhooked with my old 60lb spade. Often had to try setting 2-3 times before it set. I got a Rocna 40kg which fits perfectly on my bow roller and it sets first time, every time. I've slept easy since then, even when anchored in places with a 2-3 it current that changes direction four times a day. Maybe just lucky so far but my anchor watch had never showed me dragging. I'd stay away from the spade. Kent SM 243 Kristy On Feb 12, 2016, at 3:13 PM, maramu.goree@... [amelyachtowners] <amelyachtowners@...> wrote:

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Onan shuts down "Fault Breaker" (CB5)
Alexandre,
Yes.
With best regards,
Mark

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Re: Holding Tank Discharge Lock
Eric Colegrove <ecole2020@...>
My Maramu has 2 heads, but only one has a holding tank and valve. The forward head is overboard discharge only. Does on have to lock the door to the head, or put a chain around it? Has anyone plumbed in a macerator pump on a Maramu? Currently, the only way to empty the minuscule 10 gallon holding tank is by shore side pump out. Some local jurisdictions or marinas might have such a rule, but it is most certainly not required in all US territorial waters. That said, it is not legal to discharge your tank within 3 nautical miles of the coast, but you do not have to disable the discharge valve. I have kept a boat in a marina which wanted the valve disabled. Tying it shut with a plastic cable tie satisfied them. |
