Just had a great dinner and conversation with Derick and Susan (Bravo) in Woods Hole.

Guess I'll try to hook up with more of the Family as I head South.  I'm rendezvousing (is that a real word?) with Craig and Katherine at 10:17 one day, somewhere in RI next week.   Will try to get up the Sassafras for a visit with the Annapolis environs cousins if anyone will be there in October.

That would be very helpful – pretty sure this is the problem – the water visibly pulses with the motor coming on and off – and leave it off for a while and  there is still initially pressure, which clearly drops very quickly.

We have an IDRO ECOINOX combined pump and water expansion tank unit installed – we don’t have the standard expansion tank fitted behind the hot water heater. We now have the water pump rapidly cycling when running water – I assume therefore there is a problem with the expansion tank. I wondered if anyone else had this sort of pump installed and had any manuals / tech information on it – We don’t seem to have any in the boat manuals and there is a dearth of information on the internet. I would guess an option might be to fit a standard expansion tank behind the hot water heater but I am not sure of the size and manufacturer of what is fitted as standard in the earlier Amels?

The Genoa furler (Bamar 1.02) started to make a different noise from its usual smooth sound a couple of weeks ago. We have been in a marina for that time due to family and have not used the furler since the noise started. I opened the inspection box to find some yellow grease on the sides of the gears and the balance having washed away from the gears with some water present. There was also some grey metallic presence which I assume is metal shavings from the gears. 

 

In turning the furler manually, I do not hear any unusual sound. I have cleaned all of the old grease and am ready to pack it with new. My questions are as follows:

 

1.     The furler manual recommends mineral grease. I have access to Lithium and silicone grease. What have you used with good results.

2.     I was thinking of packing the entire cavity with grease to avoid any room from condensation. Do you see any downside or better way?

3.     Have you had problem with water intrusion even if the cover is sealed well or is the assumption of the source being condensation the correct one?

4.     Is every one having issues with this furler that replacement is a necessity somewhere down the road or is the problem isolated to a few furlers?

All input will be appreciated.

Ours is shaped as a cone.
Take a broad screwdriver and a piece of wood to protect your hull and to give you a small angel. Gently push to lid upwards with the screwdriver from different locations. The first time is a hard one.
It works in the same way as the lid on the hole for the security rudder in top of the aft cabin.

I believe that there are several types of black water access ports on SM's. BeBe 387 simply unscrews and the piece that you unscrew looks similar to the fuel or water ports.

Maybe a photo of what you have is needed.

After about 5000 miles there is no apparent wear on the batten pockets and the sails are as good as new.

Do you have a black deck plug ?
If so, it will only be stuck, lever it out around the edge, it will come...there's nothing holding it in except friction.
