Hello Gang, I looked at all the 'net findings. Unfortunately, many have a reduced waisted section. This will reduce water flow and may not be what we need. In passing, the Y information was extended to a number of Oyster/Discovery/HR owners and all Onan equipped boats share our misery... I have not ordered yet as the price has been quoted at €50. However, IMO, the Marine Electrics unit looks like the best solution still... And has proven itself on Onans. This is what I love about this Forum! Jean Pierre find a great solution to a problem we share, Eric almost become a distributor until he finds a better solution, then we all build on from there and make our Amel even better! I am not experienced enough to conclude which one is the best, but thanks James for the additional research!!! By the way, place a large order with Maud this morning (Bow thruster, transmission oil plug, rudder packing, joysticks, windlass, etc.), for those missing the Green light on the 220 volt panel, they are available! I have found a few of interest: * https://www.brazetek.com/products/details/37/10/cast-bronze-y-strainers/1-inch-threaded-y-strainer%2C-cast-bronze%2C-with-plug * http://www.supplyhouse.com/Watts-0379113-1-LF777SI-Lead-Free-Brass-Wye-Strainer-Threaded * http://www.supplyhouse.com/Hydrovalve-WYE100LF-1-Bronze-Wye-Strainer-Lead-Free-Threaded * http://www.supplyhouse.com/Zurn-1-SXL-1-SXL-Lead-Free-Bronze-Wye-Strainer-Threaded All of those seem very similar to me. All 1" bronze, I believe one of them may have a copper mesh instead of stainless. The grade of stainless seems to be 304 in all cases it's used. A quick search in the UK found this stainless body version (plus stainless thread to barb fittings) but doubt it'd be of benefit for this use: * http://www.commercialfuelsolutions.co.uk/stainless_steel_y_strainer_bspp.html And also this bronze one. I believe this has a finer mesh grade even though it's also a "Watts" brand:* http://www.advancedwater.co.uk/prod-660-345-1102.html I'm curious what peoples thoughts on the best bet is? I have seen many cheap brass versions, I can't imagine that would end well. Cheers, James. On Wed, 28 Oct 2015 at 14:42 Alexandre Uster von Baar uster@... So yes you can unscrew, get the screen and see if there is any, etc. I have not ordered from any of the link I mentioned above, this is just for pictures reference. I am flying to the US for business next week and will try to find locally. Also they are easier to find under "Y Strainer". Hope that helps. Date: Wednesday, October 28, 2015, 2:54 PM If this is just a plumbing Y, what stops the impeller pieces? In the photo included with the article, the water has a straight-thru run (the two hose barbs), the screen/filter is in the off-line part of the Y (plumbers would refer to it as a clean-out). I thought there must be some kind of diverter in it, but if it's just a plumbing Y, that's not the case. A quick search in the UK found this stainless body version (plus stainless thread to barb fittings) but doubt it'd be of benefit for this use: And also this bronze one. I believe this has a finer mesh grade even though it's also a "Watts" brand: I'm curious what peoples thoughts on the best bet is? I have seen many cheap brass versions, I can't imagine that would end well. Cheers, James. On Wed, 28 Oct 2015 at 14:42 Alexandre Uster von Baar uster@... Look at the following pictures http://www.amazon.com/Internal-Thread-Brass-Strainer-Connector/dp/B00IFVKCT0/ and http://www.amazon.com/Strainers-NPT-Female/dp/B005Q37YQ4 You will see inside the mesh that will catch the parts (propeller blade in our case). So yes you can unscrew, get the screen and see if there is any, etc. I have not ordered from any of the link I mentioned above, this is just for pictures reference. I am flying to the US for business next week and will try to find locally. Also they are easier to find under "Y Strainer". Hope that helps. Bill & Judy Rouse <yahoogroups@...>
Ben, I am 99% sure that you need a new pump on the washer. You can repair this yourself with a new pump. Here is a link to a universal pump that fits the Thompson. Before you pay for a service charge and labor, and Yada, yada...order this pump: Universal Askoll Washing Machine Magnet Motor Pump (ES1087464) £9.99 inc VAT I replaced this pump in my Thompson and solved the problem that you have. Anyone else that has a Thompson washer and plans to keep it another year or so needs to also order this pump. Best, Bill BeBe 387 On Wed, Oct 28, 2015 at 1:40 PM, joedoakes66@... Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Re: AUTOMATIC AND MANUAL WHALE IN CONFLICT: BILGE PUMP AIR LOCK POSSIBLE
Bill & Judy Rouse <yahoogroups@...>
Ben, I am very glad that you asked...some of us have been down the same paths before and learned the hard and expensive way. If you are not absolutely sure about a problem or symptom, please ask. Asking a question in this group helps us all learn more, and helps us understand our boats better. BTW, I am in the same situation with that hose, but you were lucky to be where it was readily available. I think that the two hoses in that gray water sump get old and brittle and will begin to leak at the connection to the pump. Anyone else reading this, if you happen to be where this hose is readily available and your hose is 8 years old, or older, replace it now. Also, Ben, thanks for getting back and confirming what I believed your problem was...that helps me learn. Best, Bill BeBe 387 On Wed, Oct 28, 2015 at 1:34 PM, joedoakes66@... Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Re: [Amel] Clothes washer issue on SM 391
Hi Bill, Mine could be bad pump. Unit stopped during spin cycle with water left in bottom. LED lights flashed from spin to finished. I drained the unit and cleaned the filter in the bottom of unit. There was no blockage I could see. Unit now fails to restart. LED's light up when I push "depart" button but only momentarily. It refuses to start up regardless of what cycle I attempt - wash, rinse, or spin. its done this before but always restarted. Ben Ben Driver SM 347 |

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Re: [Amel] Clothes washer issue on SM 391
Thanks Colin, I had same issue with French only manual. Most recent issue is unit shutting down with water inside and failing to restart. I think it make need to be serviced. thanks again. Ben Ben Driver SM 347 |

Re: AUTOMATIC AND MANUAL WHALE IN CONFLICT: BILGE PUMP AIR LOCK POSSIBLE
HI Bill,
I followed your advice and replaced the intake hose. The old hose was a thick walled white sanitary hose that had become like a piece of metal conduit. It apparently had a leak somewhere as new hose double clamped with silicon grease fixed the problem. Pump now works great. You sent me in the right direction. I dread to think I would have went down the road fixing stuff that wasn't broken before I replaced that hose. That's for the direction.

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Re: [Amel] Clothes washer issue on SM 391
Hi Ben Unfortunately Lauren and I are no expert on the washer/dryer as we have barely ever used ours having not cruised the boat long term yet. Our one has always worked really well but we didn't have an English instruction manual hence this post in 2013 when I posted one on the site in case others also only had the French versions. Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Rack and pinion Disassembly - Super Maramu
hobie_ind@...
I thought I'd post a quick update.
A big hammer and a brass block did the trick in removing the wheel as per Olivier's advice. A couple of days of liberal application of penetrating oil probably also helped while I was waiting for parts. Once the wheel was off, removing a retaining clip, removing the fwd support bracket by the autopilot sprocket and unbolting the racks allowed the shaft to be removed relatively easily in place without pulling everything out from the back . A few broken teeth on one of the racks was clearly the problem. Maud at Amel was great to deal with. After contacting her on a Wednesday. Following a few emails with photos and a phone call to confirm the correct parts, shipping details and payment, a pair of racks, a new steering shaft and a pair of upgraded steel retaining blocks (to replace the plastic blocks which connect the rack bodies to the steering cable sheaths) were winging their way to Fiji by Friday! Excellent service in my opinion. I got the parts yesterday (about 10 days after shipping - DHL was a bit slow, but I'd requested them since there's a local agent to help with customs clearance), had a local shop press off the bearing and press it on the new shaft this morning. The only glitch in reassembly was that slot for the retaining clip on the new shaft was too narrow for the original retaining clip. We found another clip at the shop that fit and a few hrs later everything was back together. It really does make a difference when everything is so easy to access! I do love Amel's attention to making systems accessible for maintenance. Now, we're back to exploring Fiji a bit more before looking in mid-Nov for a weather window to jump to NZ. Loving it!
