Hi Tony:

Our boat was next off the line after yours. The Xantrex manual has no model number.  However, if it will help, the number on the back of the manual is 975-0111-01-01.  I suppose this could be a publication number.

Tony,

How are you?

I have a printed version of the Xantex manual - I would be interested in a download too so if you get a link please tell me.

What are your plans and where are you? We plan to join the ARC in November then round the World from Jan 16 via Panama Canal. We have Amel 54 #035 - Carango.

I hope you haven't had any more engine problems, I had mine overhauled by Volvo in France last month and it seems to be going well.

Tony,

I would be interested in downloading that too although I have the printed version.

How are you? Where are you? What are your plans?

We set off with Carango (Amel 54 #035) on the ARC in November and then from Jan 16 round the world through the Panama Canal.

I hope your engine is now OK - I had mine overhauled by Volvo last month in France.

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Hurth Gearbox

Tom, that’s very interesting because I have the same engine and definitely have a HBW 220 trans.  Air Ops is a 1982 model, just one year before yours.  I did a web search and can find nothing to say what the difference is between a 220 and a 250.  I did see, however, that there is a ZF Hurth major repair kit says it’s for both models so maybe they are essentially the same.  I would be definitely interested if anyone has the answer.

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Genoa furling gearbox re-grease

Giovanni TESTA

Hi Alain, many thanks to remember me your post.
Unfortunately I have last AMEL gearbox_2003. Any way the procedure may be adapted.
About the grease leakage, I had the doubt if the grease is from gearbox or from the forestay.
If I well remember in a post, not recent (Olivier?), it was clear that it is from forestay. For this reason I asked Bill a support. To re-fill the forestay I'm planning the job for when I'll be near an Amel base (now I'm in Thailand).
For the gearbox ( SM 428_2003 ) I'm wondering if it is possible to check and to re-grease inside.
I have the sketch of 2003 model but I don't understand (I'm not on board) if, cover removed, it is possible to do that without removing the engine.

The forestay grease is recommended every 5 years. Some people never do this. Chances are your SM has never been done.

FURLING GEARBOX
Regarding the gearbox, I recommend that you have a grease fitting added to the furling gearbox and that you add waterproof grease once a year.

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Genoa furling gearbox leaking

Bill & Judy Rouse <yahoogroups@...>

Peter,

If you have only had Super Maramu #41 for 6 months, you might consider asking the previous owner. The reason I asked where you were located, is because in warmer climates, when the grease on the forestay gets hot, it will sometimes drip out of the inside of the furller onto the deck near the furling gearbox. If that is the source, it is not a defect or a problem.

Also, that is also why I asked how long you have owned this Super Maramu because I thought that possibly that you did not know about this.

If you happen to go to Turkey, you will find the Amel Representative, Emek Marine, in Gocek, who will be able to inspect it and tell you what is happening. One thing that they can do is add a grease fitting to that furller gearbox so that you can add fresh grease to the gearbox. Contact Riza at Emek at cagdas"at"emekmarin.com. Emek has been very busy this summer doing a number of Super Maramu refits.
