Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Re: Amel 54 Battery Monitor

Hi Tony: Our boat was next off the line after yours. The Xantrex manual has no model number. However, if it will help, the number on the back of the manual is 975-0111-01-01. I suppose this could be a publication number. Jeff LAST TANGO On Sep 5, 2015, at 05:16, Tony Robinson tonywrobinson51@... [amelyachtowners] <amelyachtowners@...> wrote:

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Re: Amel 54 Battery Monitor
Tony, How are you? I have a printed version of the Xantex manual - I would be interested in a download too so if you get a link please tell me. What are your plans and where are you? We plan to join the ARC in November then round the World from Jan 16 via Panama Canal. We have Amel 54 #035 - Carango. I hope you haven't had any more engine problems, I had mine overhauled by Volvo in France last month and it seems to be going well. Does anybody know the precise model no. of the Xantrex battery monitor fitted as standard to the Amel 54 (no.102). I'm trying to download a user manual, and all I can find are the Link 10 and Link 20 model manuals. The label on the bottom of the rectangular display unit just says Battery Monitor, with the manufacturer, Xantrex, written in large letters at the top. Thanks in advance. Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Hurth Gearbox
David Wallace
Tom, that’s very interesting because I have the same engine and definitely have a HBW 220 trans. Air Ops is a 1982 model, just one year before yours. I did a web search and can find nothing to say what the difference is between a 220 and a 250. I did see, however, that there is a ZF Hurth major repair kit says it’s for both models so maybe they are essentially the same. I would be definitely interested if anyone has the answer.

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Genoa furling gearbox re-grease
Hi Alain, many thanks to remember me your post.

Unfortunately I have last AMEL gearbox_2003. Any way the procedure may be adapted. About the grease leakage, I had the doubt if the grease is from gearbox or from the forestay. If I well remember in a post, not recent (Olivier?), it was clear that it is from forestay. For this reason I asked Bill a support. To re-fill the forestay I'm planning the job for when I'll be near an Amel base (now I'm in Thailand). For the gearbox ( SM 428_2003 ) I'm wondering if it is possible to check and to re-grease inside. I have the sketch of 2003 model but I don't understand (I'm not on board) if, cover removed, it is possible to do that without removing the engine. Giovanni, have a look at the conversion "headsail furler" where I decribe that I had to maintain this gearbox; photos available also under same title;
After having retrofitted my gearbox I have no leaks of oil at all, although PILGRIM is under the greek sun since 3 years; so we could consider that oil leak is not a disater but is the signal for maintenance and seal change in particular. Fair winds Alain PILGRM SM N°26 |

Giani, No I do not know, but believe it has to be dropped...which is the reason that many have not done it. I assume that if it is dripping, there is still grease in there. Bill BeBe 387 On Thu, Sep 3, 2015 at 6:19 PM, Giovanni Testa gtesta23@... [amelyachtowners] <amelyachtowners@...> wrote:

Bill,
you exactly described how it is dropping out... Happy (more or less) to hear that in hot climates this happens and is normal. It will take lots of time until Iam in turkey. Does it make sense to refill from time to time? What would you use? Thanks Bill, Peter |

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Genoa furling gearbox leaking
Bill & Judy Rouse <yahoogroups@...>
Peter, If you have only had Super Maramu #41 for 6 months, you might consider asking the previous owner. The reason I asked where you were located, is because in warmer climates, when the grease on the forestay gets hot, it will sometimes drip out of the inside of the furller onto the deck near the furling gearbox. If that is the source, it is not a defect or a problem. Also, that is also why I asked how long you have owned this Super Maramu because I thought that possibly that you did not know about this. If you happen to go to Turkey, you will find the Amel Representative, Emek Marine, in Gocek, who will be able to inspect it and tell you what is happening. One thing that they can do is add a grease fitting to that furller gearbox so that you can add fresh grease to the gearbox. Contact Riza at Emek at cagdas"at"emekmarin.com. Emek has been very busy this summer doing a number of Super Maramu refits. Bill BeBe 387 On Thu, Sep 3, 2015 at 3:14 PM, mausi@... [amelyachtowners] <amelyachtowners@...> wrote:

Hi bill,
This is no. 41, located in greece and i got it 6 months ago. I was wondering if the oil is not the right one. Maybe using grease in the gearbox. Its coming out on the forestay. Best Peter |
