Toilet/Heads replacement - any suggested brands/models?
Firstly, Seasons greetings to all the Amel family from sunny Australia
After doing repairs for the 2nd time on our Jabsco toilet I have had enough and am looking to replace the original Jabsco Silent Flush electric heads on our 2001 Super Maramu hopefully with something better. Our problems tend to be leaking seals and/or no suction. Never problems with the macerators though, just suction. Yes, these can be repaired, and yes, some of our guests may have done the wrong thing in what was flushed down the loo but we were just wondering if any other Amel owners out there had also got tired of constant toilet fixing and replaced the older factory fitted toilets with something new that both fitted and gives less problems? In Australia we appear to be limited to just the following 3 brands, ie. Jabsco, TMC and Planus.. Makes and model numbers would be a good discussion point for us now and any other members who wanted to upgrade to something better in the future.. Happy sailing. Re: Owner's Manual old Maramu
rossny@mail.com
Jean-Pierre, Congradulations!!! No there is not one to send. We purchased Maramu hull #261 from 1989. When we looked through the piles of records that the previous owner left us the closest that was found was a loose leaf binder with photo copied notes (in french) and hand drawn schetches of some of the wiring. I also found original blueprint drawings. of top and profile views of the boat. If you do not have these I could copy/photograph and email them to you. I have modernized or replaced almost all the systems on the boat in the last couple of years and crawled into every nook and cranny (boat yoga), so if you have a question specific to the old maramu model I will try to help. If your questions are more general or Amel related then you should ask the group as they are way more qualified sailors than I am and some of them have owned the older models before stepping up to the supers and beyond and have experience with the Amel way of boating. Also, for the last word on Amel in the Americas, ask Joel Potter, he knows it all. Most systems are different then other boats, do not change anything untill you understand why the factory did it that way. What hull # are you? Where is your Maramu?
Hope this helps, Ross

I've been anchoring there every year for the last forty years and have
never dragged , riding out days of strong conditions, it can get a little rolly
though. The depths vary from about 10 to 40 feet , so of course selection of
where you drop your hook and appropriate scope as always is important. I have
seen many people drag over the years, as I have in many anchorages , its no
wonder , sit and what people anchor , so many have not a clue. Its actually
entertaining provided they are down wind of us. Pat

Bob Fritz
For what it is worth, a good friend of mine who worked for Sea Tow out of Annapolis for 13 years tells me that holding in the anchorage in front of the Naval Academy can be problematic during strong thunderstorms. These are not uncommon in the summer here.

Hi Dimitris,
I have the same Problem. The dishwasher did not run during the winter and now exactly this happens. The Led light turn off and the pump is running. Did you find any solution and the reason for this? Best Regards, Ralph Santa Isabella, AMEL 54, #144 |

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Lip Seals
Here is an email thread with Chuck Wilson at Carolina Seals in Charlotte, NC. He was very helpful and supplied the seals at a good price. It did take a couple of weeks because he had to order the stainless springs. It was in 2011 so prices may have changed. Happy Easter to all! Kent (RUSTY) SM 243 Kristy On the hard in Fernandina Beach FL Hi Kent, Yes, I recall supplying these to Drew Gaffney a few years ago. I can definitely help with this! I actually supplied Drew with a 45x65x8 SC style (SC is a single lip, TC is a double lip). The TC is just has an extra lip to help keep contaminants out. I can get either style for you. Our factory has a min purchase of 10 seals and either one is $8.32 / ea (including the stainless steel spring). Delivery is 3-4 weeks approximate. We can just do a credit card transaction if that will work for you. Let me know if you would like to get an order in place, and I'll give you a call (or you can call me) to get your information. We look forward to helping! Best regards, Chuck On Tue, Jun 7, 2011 at 2:18 PM, Kent Robertson <karkauai@...> wrote:

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] finally bought an Amel
Thanks Bill. Although Kristy (and the pump) are 15 yrs old, she has only been lived aboard for a total of something like 4 years. I'm hoping to retire in another 6-9 months and will have a look before we set sail. The previous owner supplied a complete new pump so I haven't been too worried about it as long as it's working so well. Kent

Bob, Thanks so much for the additional info. It seems that if an owner has the Yanmar 100hp, this is a must, based on my experience (on our 3rd elbow at about 3k hours.) Bill BeBe 387 On Sat, Apr 19, 2014 at 11:57 AM, <rossidesigngroup@...> wrote:

Yanmar Exhaust Mixing Elbow--ADDITION AND CORRECTION it is $30 international, not $15---hdi-inc.com is the rest of the email address. (He is stevew@ or stevew at if Yahoo redacts it). So mention Rossi and AMEL grooup and buy it directly from him rather than through eBay and it is free shipping in the US and half or $30 international (he told me he pays $59.50 for an international packet) A good deal I think based on our Adventures in Shipping Costs here in Europe! Regarding the elbow , Craig and Bill your comments on investment casting is right, it is a real piece of art, very well finished and really HEAVY/THICK. Time will tell but I think looks indestructible. I think his note about being able to angle the exhaust stream to avoid hose burn is also a good one.
