I built a custom refrigerator and freezer box with R 52 Vacuum panels and store bought double seal doors E 10 epoxy panels for the liners I use my freshwater tank for cooling if I was to do it again I would put one of the bronze shoes in the water tank and
eliminate all of the water cooling system and with two Dan Foss refrigeration pumps BD 50s in the cockpit locker Tom Aphrodite 125

Hello, Ann-Sofie, is it possible to show your setup in pictures? Salt water is an issue. Working toward better setups will save money and the need to flush lines. Randall A54#56

I agree with you that a water cooled system for the freezer and fridges are the best solution. But I don’t agree on using sea water. It will cause a lot of trouble with barnacles in the water inlet and hoses. It is much better to use the fresh water tank as the cooling source. Not only that you get rid of the barnacle problem, you can also run the fridges and freezer when on the hard. The additional warmth in the fresch water tank is so small that you can’t messure it. Meaning less than 0,5 degrees C. We have had this system on S/Y Lady Annila since 2007 and have never had any problems with the cooling system or the quality of the water. Re: Introduction - and some help on fridges pls
Tom, It is true that top-loading fridges and freezers are more efficient because front opening doors suck more than half of the cold air out of a fridge when you open the door. I suggest that efficiency is NOT the only measure of what is best for you and your Amel. As an example using circulating seawater is more efficient than air to transfer heat in the refrigeration condensing process, but as everyone who has this will tell you, circulating seawater in the tropics is problematic. And with the power available on most Amels, following the efficiency rule, in this case, is NOT the right thing to do. Probably the number one factor will be what will fit correctly. Bill

I guess I will take my time and do more research.

Hi Greg.. I've got the same problem on a 1988 Maramu. The lever moves freely but doesn't disengage for manual furling . Difficult to see how the lever acts.. does the segment act on something?
Help/experience much appreciated. Robin

We buy longer, armored charging cords. We are not hard on them, but they seem designed to fail. I think they are a revenue source for the phone manufacturers….we keep several on board.

Re: Machining AMEL-specific tools in NZ (outhaul puller PLUS wrench for the rudder-post-packing nut)
David Vogel
Hi Alan,
Yes, thanks, the mails are coming through again. For the info of anyone else who finds themselves in a similar situation. I went through the process on the forum website, to stop the emails bouncing. I was also in dialogue with my ISP, to indicate that the IO/AMEL Forum point-of-origin for the emails was a "white" source, and not to be black-listed. I don’t know what changed, but something did, and the emails started to come through again. I am now catching up with the backlog from the site. ALAN: I'll put you on the list for both pieces. ALL >>> STATUS update: YES, I can get the spanner/wrench made, no problem, but the only firm quote thus far gives a cost of over NZD150- (per unit, minimum of four pieces). Various other estimates are between $120- to $220- (each), but with no firm commitment - basically, metal workers here are not hungry for work, there is little competition, so can name their own terms. Anyway, I think $150- is simply untenable. So, I am continuing to try both bigger and smaller machine-shops, in order to find an improvement. I know I could make it myself, and it would be a simple thing, IF I had a workshop and metal working tools at my disposal (like I did when I had a land-base in my home town & country many years ago). All those who permanently live-aboard, or who are in an unfamiliar country, will appreciate that sometimes finding the right supplier can take a surprising amount of time and effort. But it is all the more worthwhile when you do finally 'crack the code'. Once I have something that is both tangible and reasonable, I'll repost an update to finalise numbers. What did the phone end of the cord look like? Was it previously damaged from wear and handling? This is not an uncommon occurrence with damaged wiring…..

Bill,
Do you know, does he plan to make all these parts or just the two part pulley? Its the plate underneath that the drive pin locates in which is equally important. If he's making ALL the parts I would be interested. Our drive plate has been repaired twice but I don't think it could be done a third time. Cheers Alan Elyse SM437
