I would go on shore to find a flat hard surface with a big hammer, a vice clamp and a torch to warm it if possible in order to try to unbend it.
I have done this recently…

I cut the one I use out of 1/4-inch aluminum with a bandsaw. I used the nut as a template. Attached is a photo , it is also in Bill's book. It took me about an hour to make , including a drill to make The hole in the end of the handle. I used a grinder to smooth out the piece and a orbital sander to put the final finish on it. Total time about one hour. Fair Winds Eric Kimberlite Amel Super Maramu #376

Re: Fresh water tank pipe noise
Ian, the first photo is of the aft-most section of the tank. The pickup line is copper and could possibly shake and knock against the wall, but I have to wonder what would cause that. Is it possible that there is a slight suction-side air leak? A burst of air into the suction side might cause that, at least I think so. The other end of the copper pickup line in the photo is near the freshwater pump and a hose runs from the line to the pump. When Amel made your SM, they used some sort of sealant between the copper and the hose and 2 hose clamps to help avoid a suction side leak. There will be no evidence of a suction side leak and no water leaking out, just air going in. See the second photo.

Re: DOES ANYONE KNOW WHY THE EMAILS i POST TO THE GROUP DO NOT SHOW UP?
Ralf Schroeder
Hi David,
the message "poor reputation" is an information about the Spam Confidence Level(SCL) or SPAM reputation from a SPAM Scanner or e-mail server or best, an e-mail gateway. Very small or old SPAM scanner use one or more databases from companies, that serve SPAM informations about e-mail addresses or domains on a blacklist. On this databases, it´s mostly very "easy" to become a record on it. Our group send some emails every day. And when then a user on an open e-mail provider (Hotmail, gmail and so on) mean, this is SPAM, it is possible, that he (or she) click on a button, that mark the e-mails as SPAM. When this user or some more user do this sometimes, some of this e-mail provider generate a record to one of this database. And some e-mail provider generate this record automatically, when the systems recognize some e-mails with the some content for some users. Better e-mail gateway's use this databases, too. And this systems are using some other tools, rules and algorithm, to set the SCL. And on this complete work, the gateway generate a poor reputation and about this the SCL. So what is to do? Someone has to check, use your ISP only one off the databases from a SPAM blacklist. When this is correct, mostly there is a process, to delete the record from the blacklist. Use your ISP a modern e-mail gateway with algorithm, sometimes it is possible, to generate a record on a whitelist. Re: DOES ANYONE KNOW WHY THE EMAILS i POST TO THE GROUP DO NOT SHOW UP?
Groups.io is constantly working on an issue caused by users of groups.io. Some users either accidentally mark incoming messages as spam, but more often when they do not want to receive any more emails, simply mark it as spam. This included a few members of this group. The Internet Community of ISPs is constantly trying to identify those people producing spam. Because a few users Groups.io make this error, this will happen. It is ALWAYS the smaller ISPs that do not update their database. Optonline is one of those ISPs. If you have GMAIL, you will not have this problem, unless you mark a Group email as spam. I get an email from Groups.io whenever someone marks an email as spam. And Groups.io immediately removes that member from our Group, sending an email to the member with a link to re-join. BUT, please understand that the marking of that email as spam has already done its damage with regard to the ISP community trying to eliminate spammers. Almost every time this happens somebody at Groups.io is required to mitigate the issue with the ISP community. I hope this is understandable, but if it is not understandable to you and you have accidentally marked an email from our Group as spam, please change your email provider to GMAIL. Bill

Re: Introduction
I’m in a similar situation to you and have definitely got myself tangled up in Courtney’s time to pivot issue! I’m after a good 54 but I started out looking for SM’s so have been following the forum closely for years and have compiled a list of posts differentiating them. I don’t have a lot of the original attributions but much of this is from Joel Potter (great resource if you are buying a boat in the US side of the world), Olivier Beauté (definitely the best surveyor and knows just about every Super Maramu ever built personally) and many trusted long time members who went through the same time (as well as my meagre experiences sailing on older (but beautiful) Super Maramu’s and Super Maramu 2000’s. This wasn’t intended to be publicly posted and were my comments to myself so I apologize if I got anything wrong and take full responsibility for that. In any case, here it is such as it is:

Amel SM or another Amel model in SALVAGE
I believe that there are at least 2 SMs in salvage. One was in Guadalupe, the other in St. Martin. Maybe there are more than 2 because there is one in Trinidad that should be in salvage. I would like to have any contact information that anyone has regarding these because with over 300 24/7 Support clients, and many components no longer available, I would like to connect clients to the person in charge of the salvage. As an example, I am currently looking for an "under the salon sofa" fiberglass refrigeration unit. Recently a client needed new masts and booms, another needed a bow thruster, and another needed a complete Genoa Furler motor and gearbox assembly. Bill

Re: Dimensions of Countertop Above Washing/Dryer for SM2K
Thanks David! That is a huge help. Also thanks for the photos. One thing I forgot to ask is the width of the fiddle rails and how many millimeters towards the middle of the fiddle the rounded edge goes. If you could get those for me, it would be great. I’m drafting up a mockup of the door top so that I can fit it for the cutting board. I’ve got a 3cm piece of solid mahogany and want to see if I can nest it about 1.5-2 cm into that recession. Who knows, if it works out how I hope, I can easily make more! Cheers, Tilo

Re: Introduction
Thanks everybody for the great responses and warm welcome!
We're definitely in the market for an older SM as well, as long as most of the refitting has been done already. We sort of want to sail more and repair less. Who doesn't? HaHa.:-) As I've been an engineer all my life I'm used to solving problems, so I think I'll manage doing most of the repairs or finding the right people to do it for me. But doing a lot of refitting would rather be something I'll reserve for when I retire one day or something. :-) The difference regarding the engine/transmission is not a big deal for me but I do understand that a SM2000/redline is easier to sell. Is there maybe a list of the main differences between pre- and post-1999 Amels? I saw one years ago but can't figure out where that was. The map I drew was not really a serious plan :-D I was just figuring out our sabbatical is "in theory" long enough to go on a long "nicely rounded" trip of some sort. I fully expect to end up in completely different situations. Even after these few interactions I'm already rethinking the starting point of our intended voyage. :-D I'm in touch with Bill already and will definitely check it out! Thanks! Cheers! Martijn

Has anyone ever heard a knocking sound coming from the draw pipe (I think) when the fresh water pump turns on? Is it a loose bracket or something else?

Re: Introduction
Hey there, welcome in advance to the family! I say this with confidence cause if you've already got Amels on your radar, it's the only boat you'll end up with for sure :) A couple thoughts from a fairly inexperienced owner here:
1. The difference in price between 2000, redline and original SMs is quite large. For us, spending 100k more on a 10 year newer model didn't make sense because the bones of the SM are pretty much the same. You'll get a bigger engine and beefed up tranny I think, but the original little Perkins has done us fine, as an example. The layout is more or less identical. The hull will last 10,000 years either way as long as it hasn't been damaged. So the 100k we saved by buying a 1991 vs 2001 went a long LONG way towards refitting, adding extras, and padding out the cruising kitty, as it might do for you. 2. Plans?! What stinkin plans?! :) Our amazing former owner Robin beat it into our heads that living on a sailboat means you gotta be good with plans being the merest of suggestions only. Be ready to change every single point of your plan, embrace change, and enjoy the unpredictability of it. We started in Italy and were set on going around as well, but then took a wrong turn and then another and got stuck in the eastern Med now for the last 3 years! We love it so much here we might never leave. There is enough to see for 10 lifetimes. Nothing wrong with that either ;) 3. Bill Rouse of this forum and Yacht School I believe is invaluable. Check out his programs. We used his remote survey, which involved taking hundreds of strategic photos of prospective boats for sale. He went through them and identified problems, good and bad, value, price opinion etc. These boats have a VERY steep learning curve compared to other sailboats, and it felt great to have a seasoned Amel sailor standing behind you. Plus he personally knows a surprisingly lot of these boats, so just with a name he can help. Ok that's it. Good luck! Davi S/Y Wake
