Dave, thanks for the note. In my search of AMEL's I saw Exit Straightly last year with you in Sausalito and your right Morning Dove is an outstanding Maramu.

I was in error Morning Dove was not Henri's personal yacht. My 65 year old memory got the better of me, my error.
Cheers.

From everything I saw on the internet and from a conversation with the broker, Morning Dove seems like an outstanding Maramu and it was an excellent price. Our boat, Exit Strategy, was Henri's personal boat prior to Morning Dove. I'm curious if you know the original name of your boat. Ours was Maramu 3 and was one of the brochure boats.

The chain counter on the 54 is entirely different from the one on the 53. It
is an integral part of the Lewmar windlass. You need a Lewmar technical
manual to service it.

JP, also make sure you still have a magnet in the gypsy, their protective coating gets worn off and they disintegrate. All parts are available from Lewmar as well as the schematics.

Daisy Donald <daisydonald7041@...>

Hi Amel owners,
We're so glad to see that Amel owners are really proud of their yachts and we're looking at them seriously for our family of four to go long term cruising. Can anyone do a "hard sell"on us as to why they're so great? We are of the mind that you're buying a top-notch system, among other things, when you go with Amel, and we like the idea that employees share the ups and downs of the company (ie great service). Apart from that we love how they look & the type sailing they seem to offer :-)
So why Amel Super Maramu? This is the big plunge for us and there aren't many to view in Australia so we'd love your feedback.
Many thanks,
Jo
Western Australia (for now!)

Propshaft wearing ring

Anne and John Hollamby <annejohnholl@...>

Hello Craig,
Many thanks for your excellent posting of 12 April 2013. I had just bought a new wearing ring from Amel which was,as you said, very expensive probably because of the courier charges. One might have thought that they would get a special deal in view of the quantity of stuff they must send out around the world. I was going to have a copy made locally but before doing so I printed your posting and took it to a Maltese dealer specialising in oil seals, bearings etc. They came up with a solution which should make it unnecessary to ever change the bronze ring ever again.
The relevant part of the brass/bronze ring is 30mms long and 45mms in diameter. They sold me a sleeve made of the sort of steel used in bearings which is very wear resistant. It is 45mms ID and 50mms OD and 35mms overall. They told me to take it to a machine shop and instruct them to thoroughly clean it and the wear ring and then to use a hydraulic press to put it in place cutting off 5mms from the projecting end.
They also sold me some oil seals which are 50mms ID so that they will fit on the sleeve and into the housing.
I would expect the sleeved wear ring to last indefinitely but I will keep the worn wear ring just in case I need to use that as a replacement after sleeving. The oil seals provided by Amel have one edge to keep the oil in whereas the ones I have bought have two edges. The details are sleeve made in Japan by Nippon Thompson.Co. Ltd.(IKO) part no LRT 455035 !pcs. and 1030627 and the oil seals are TTO F214 2 TC 50 65 8. The
O ring inside the wear ring is 2.5 mms in thickness and the ID seems to be 40 mms. The cost of the four parts was 59 euros and the address of the supplier is info at sciclunaenterprises.com. I suppose that the sleeves are also made 30 mms long but were not in stock.
A word of warning, I have a new laptop with Windows 8 and a large touch pad for swiping, I hate W8 and in addition I typed a longer version of this message the other day and as I was signing it the edge of my hand brushed across the pad and in the process swiped out the whole message which had taken me some 90 minutes to compose. I have now disabled the touch pad and can again face this laptop!!

Best wishes, Anne and John, SM2K 319, Malta

Oh, and the term dijonctuer refers to what we Americans would call the circuit breaker. There are three circuit breakers for refrigeration on hull 387...fridge, freezer, and 2nd freezer.
