Hi,
Please wait a few days until I get to the boat I have the Renault part number. It is much longer than the companionway and has an angle cut on the end. It needs to be cut to fit . Re: [Amel] Hot Water Heater
Patrick McAneny
Eric, My wife wrote that email for me and she added (hot) in front of water heater.I assure you it was not her intention to drive you or anyone "crazy".Do you think 10 lashes is adequate for such an offense ? When you think about it, once the water is heated and hot, the heater continues to heat the hot water to keep it hot. So, (not to be petty)I guess you could say that it is a hot water heater as well.I will try to proof read her posts in the future. Pat

Rubber Coupling
Barry <seagasm@...>
Hi crew, the rubber coupling between the TMD22a gearbox that also has the prop shaft pulley wheel installed and the propeller drive unit needs to be replaced on Tradewinds. Does anyone have information on the procedure to replace this. Is this part only available from Amel or am I able to obtain a new one from a Volvo dealer since it is/could be a standard part?
Thanks in advance Barry and Robyn Tradewinds III SM 191

Berth length, outhaul motor and gearbox, water heater
Anne and John Hollamby <annejohnholl@...>
There are pics of the transverse bunk we made on top of the standard fore and aft ones in the aft cabin in the photos section under "changes to Bali Hai" album, one of the oldest so wayback in that section. It works very well and has the bonus that when the boat is heeled one person cn sleep fore and aft on the downhill side.
The search feature will not work for me but I recall that someone gave the details of the makers of the motor and gearbox for the outhaul several years ago. I think I recall Bosch and Leroy??. Can anyone help please? Eric, thanks for your input on water heaters, it is not often that this forum rates a guffaw. Best wishes, Anne and John, SM 319

Hi Pat, We switched to 1200 watt on our new tank. Much better. The reason for the 600 watt was that when Amel originally fitted the tanks many marinas only had low amp supplies. Fair winds, Ian and Judy, Pen Azen, SM302, Sound of Mull--in SUNSHINE!

We switched our aft cabin berth athwartships and now have over 7 feet of length plus it's much more comfortable in an anchorage with any roll. We copied the "Amel style" supports and made up a new marine ply "filler" piece. Kept the old pieces so we can easily restore it to the original configuration. Of course, one man's "wasted space" is a long-term cruiser's dream. Good luck - sorry, but no suggestions for your crew. Craig Briggs, s/v Sanagaris, Santorin #68

Berth length
goulty2002 <goulty@...>
HI,
I thought the Santorin I viewed last week was my dream boat, but I am 6'2" and my two lads are taller. The berths were so small both my head and feet were on the bulkheads. What a shame when so much space had been wasted on engine and rear lockers. I can see no way to find some extra length and certainly cannot feel like I am standing up all night. I doubt that I can afford to run any of the bigger models so has anyone got any good ideas to find an Amel that I can sleep in? ( other than a family deal on leg shortening)

Our 1990 Supermaramu has Bonfiglioli gears powered by CIMA motors for the main furler and outhaul. The CIMA motor seems to be out of production. Would somebody please tell us what gear/motor combination is on the newer Amels so that we could look at getting spares/replacements.

Re: [Amel] Raising the waterline on an SM
Richard Piller <richard03801@...>
Ian, thanks for the up date sorry about the cold water and storms. We also
painted out the orange stripe as when loaded to live aboard we were very tired of cleaning the water line of growth. We can report that CSC is not a very good solution for an all around bottom paint. We've had to clean heavy growth three times over 10 months. It had become a item in the plan whenever we were getting ready to sail any distance. We have removed that paint are back to using Petit Trinidad Sr which in the past has been a good solution for lasting over two years in very different waters. Regarding the Coopercoat, thanks for the heads up and we look forward to your reports. Thanks, stay dry. Richard and Joan on Challenge in Annapolis at 34 C ________________________________ From: Ian & Judy Jenkins <ianjudyjenkins@...> To: amelyachtowners@... Sent: Wed, July 7, 2010 12:03:04 PM Subject: [Amel] Raising the waterline on an SM Hi y'all, Over the years we have lost count of the number of times we have cleaned our water line, the white line between the antifouling and the orange strip and indeed the orange strip itself aft of the cockpit as Pen Azen, in common with many SMs , always seems to be slightly down at the stern. Last August, when we applied Coppercoat, we decided to be bold and apply the Coppercoat right up to the top of the orange strip and to add a new blue strip above that, leaving a white strip between the Coppercoat and the blue. We were not certain how the raised waterline would look but having done it we are delighted. No longer does the white strip need cleaning and the raised waterline makes the hull look just a little bit sleeker. When you do clean and polish the topsides there is a smaller area to clean and, when still in the water, little risk of getting your rag wet.We can recommend it. And what of the Coppercoat? We applied it last August and from then until mid June this year Pen Azen did not leave her marina berth at Swanwick on the Hamble river in southern England. The marina is in a very muddy river and ordinarily we would have expected fouling and barnacles. This time when I dived to check the hull ( 14 degrees C .....) there were no barnacles but there was a layer of slime, thicker higher up, very little below 50cm or so. It came off easily with a wipe of a scratchy kitchen sponge and from the experience of others I would not expect to have to wipe the hull again while we are using the boat. For those that don't haul their boat it seems that an annual wipe usually suffices. For those that do, a pressure wash on hauling does the trick. I will report in about 6 months time to see how things proceed. Ian and Judy, Pen Azen, SM 302 Plockton , Scotland( at anchor with a F9 forecast,an improvement on the F10 of two days ago but with the same rain....) __________________________________________________________ http://clk.atdmt.com/UKM/go/197222280/direct/01/ Do you have a story that started on Hotmail? Re: Looking to visit an Amel in eastern US or Canada
Jose <jgvenegas@...>
Dear Patrick, we would be happy to let you visit our boat, a SM 2000. When we were looking for one, two years ago, we were very fortunate to find an owner here in Massachusetts who kindly let us look at his boat before we made a trip to Florida. That was very helpful because, when we started looking for the dream boat, we already had a good idea of what we wanted. So, it is my time to pay back and my wife and I will be happy to have you and significant other on board. We have a boat at Constitution Marina, in Boston. I will be out of town until July 18 and will be out with the boat during some weekends after that but we can coordinate a good time for all.
