B&G depth transducer H2000 + processor

Thomas Wink

Hi All,

Having some trouble finding a replacement for this B&G depth transducer (see photo).

Does anyone have tips? Or maybe information on which transducer might also work on H2000 systen via B&G processor?

Best regards,

Re: B&G Forward Scan Transducer Install

Hello team,

I have great results from the forward scan, it prevented us to hit a coral head in Martinique… (good return on investment)
I am using it everyday, it works perfectly in shallow waters in auto mode .
In very shallow waters you have only a forward view of 20 meters in front of the boat, you need to approach slowly…
I am using it in a shared screen with Map, and fish finder.
It is installed instead of the interphase.
I was not satisfied with the interphase.
I am running it on a Simard but I believe there no difference since this is Navico.

Best regards

Danny, I had the interphase prior to the B&G , I did not have good returns with it either. I fiddled with it a few times and never turned it on again, I thought the mud bottom on the Bay may have been the problem. As far as location, they were both mounted about where you enter the forward stateroom .
I don’t know if there is any adjustment on the B&G ,other than range.
If anyone has had great returns with the B&G , I would like to know about it or see a short video of their screen ,if possible.

Hi Gerhard,

please are so kind to name the rigger in Kalamata, Kalamata Marina I presume. Are you satisfied with Kalamata (Marina), do you recommend this location, e.g. for wintering?

Hello to the group,
on youtube you  will find the video from B&G forwardscan installation  by Oliver from SV Vela Nautica . Installation looked very nice . I tried to get in contact with Oliver by googlemail for  measurements etc but I did not receive mail.
I will bring  the B&G Vulcan 9  (Navionics) with internal GPS  next to my Furuno Navnet (c-map) and connect to B&G H3000 .

Is there a tool for removing these, or do you use the tool with round pins instead of double flatheads?

I had the same issue. It is very difficult to get in touch with him. My plan is to sail to Malta. As I was talking to him, this is the most preferred solution for him.

Hi Roman,

Manual is available on the forum:

https://amelyachtowners.groups.io/g/main/filessearch?p=name%2C%2C%2C20%2C1%2C0%2C0&q=dolphin

LiFePO4 charging must be totally stopped at 100% SOC.

The Dolphin 1 provides a maintenance charge in the last stage and that must be disabled. This could be done by a hardware modification voltage.

But I am not yet convinced that the accuracy is good enough for Lithium charging.

Alternative rigger recommendation in Europe

Neil Meyrick

Hi we recently took over Revelation from Drew & Lili Gaffney. One of the things Drew was trying to do before selling the boat was to replace the standing rigging. He bought a full set of replacement rigging from ACMO which we now have, and was trying to schedule Nicky Sammut to come out and fit it but due to various factors was never able to schedule this.

We've heard that Nicky is the top man for this, but have been struggling to get hold of him and get some dates from him when he could visit the boat. I'm still trying to agree some dates with him, but feel like the time has come to start looking at alternatives.

The boat is currently in Carloforte in Sardinia, and the feedback I've had from rigging work done by the local yards was not positive. My insurance is currently excluding any rig damage, and when Olivier checked it over on the survey he said overall it looked ok, but he couldn't verify the condition of the forestay and would not recommend sailing other than in very light conditions until it is changed. I'm not happy about sailing a new-to-me boat for the first time with a question mark hanging over the rig.

Which leaves me thinking that I probably need to find someone who would be able to fly in and do the work where the boat is, ideally in the next few weeks so that it is done before easter.

Any recommendations for an alternative who could do this would be very much appreciated

Thanks
Neil

Re: B&G Forward Scan Transducer Install

Danny and Yvonne SIMMS

Hi Pat, we have the interphase forward sonar. In conversations with others with the same unit the verdict was generally negative. However I have found it to be all in the adjustments or tuning. Get it right and it is quite good. But that comes down to your expectations I guess.I do believe if it is mounted too far forward and not deep enough it will read surface water motion as a target. However I encourage you to try different range and sensitivity settings. This worked for me.
Kind Regards
Danny

Matt, I had my transducer installed by a marine electrical company, due to it being covered by an insurance claim. I have installed a few transducers and it is pretty straightforward. With the forward scan you need to locate it down as low and forward as possible and of course the transducer needs to be installed absolutely level by contouring the plastic shim to fit the hull , of course it needs to face absolutely forward.
Having said that, I will now say if I had to do it again , I would have saved my money and not installed it. Maybe it is just my experiences, but I find the images so erratic,to be useless. I thought it was because of the soft mud of the Chesapeake affecting the returns, but I am now in the Bahamas with packed sand and the returns are still useless. I wish it worked well here , but it does not and I don’t even turn it on.
I have spoken to the B&G reps. At the Annapolis  boat show the last two years, even showing them videos of the erratic display. They had no explanations, when I asserted that they would not sell a product that is useless, would they.
I hope you have better luck than me, most everyone does, in any circumstance. I have the Luck of the Irish, but not the good type.
Good luck,

Hi guys,

Another option is to modify a flat head bit with an angle grinder or something up to the task. Kind of primitive, but it works. Take proper precautions of course - vice, safety glasses, etc.

It's a multi-bit screwdriver with many of the common security bits.  I think that is what you are looking for, however check out the bits it comes with and make sure.

The quality is pretty good and it worked for my use.  It was about $32 when I bought it and it seems like it still is around that price.

Does that ring a bell to any of you. I looked everywhere, found some in France through Amazon but too small.
I also need the nuts (because I dropped the ones I managed to remove...).

I have some screenshots.

Idealy I would like to find a US supplier for the bits. I assume the nuts are metric.

Thanks!

Mike & Eric,

You have figured correctly.  In the method I used the epoxy is ONLY inside the foil, not overflowing into the collar that connects the foil to the gearbox.

Anytime you need to get epoxy to lose its grip, apply heat.  Most cured epoxies begin to soften at relatively modest temperatures, usually below 100C.
