Re: which pump?

Scott SV Tengah

Do you have the electronic pressure sensor? On my 6E, there's an Led on it that shows when it is triggered by "a need for water" and tries to start the pump.

If the light turns on when you need water, then the problem is not the sensor. To be extra sure, of course, you could make sure the sensor is sending current/voltage to the motor when that light is on. While you're at it, remove the intake-output hoses and make sure nothing is blocking the sensor.

Otherwise, you may have a leak in the seal between the motor and the pump head. This is what happened to me when I didn't have an accumulator. It's pretty easy to determine if that's your problem - just take off the cap furthest away from pump head (where water lines go). If there's water/corrosion in there, your seal is damaged. Maybe you're lucky and there's just carbon buildup or perhaps your brushes are worn down.

Marco sells rebuild parts for all of their pumps. Hope this helps.

Amel 54 displacement

David Crisp

I have been looking over the displacement data for the Amel 54 and I notice there some discrepancies between some documents, I myself am now uncertain.  Have various figures and conversions been confused between imperial and US tons?

Anyway, what are the correct figures for displacement of the Amel 54 please?  Light and loaded.
What is the ballast weight?

Re: Galley sink drain

Mark Barter

Our Super Maramu has a drain under the galley sink that goes directly into the sea. There is an option to divert the grey water from the sink into the sump. There is some gurgling on starboard tack but that is the only downside as far as I can see. I wouldn't have it arranged any other way. The sump is so much easier to clean and needs cleaning a lot less frequently.

The only problem is that any animal fat that you allow down the sink will meet seawater and if it is cold enough it will congeal and potentially block the sink. This happened to us once. Since then we wipe as much fat off the plates as possible before washing up.

I didn't install the drain but it is a very simple set up. The through hull is an inch and quarter.

Re: which pump?

Alan Leslie

We have a variable speed Marco pump and initially installed it without an accumulator.
I wasn't sure whether our water hoses would comply with the "flexible piping" that Marco mention.
So I put in a small accumulator soon after.
The system has been running now for nearly 4 years with no problems at all.
Smooth water delivery and plenty of it.
Cheers

Furler /Foil connection ,rivets or machine screw

Patrick McAneny

I was just about to order some S.S. rivets to replace my old ones in the furler ,when I remember a discussion a couple of years ago about using screws instead of rivets. Is that the way to go now? If so what size bolts are recommended ,if rivets what size ? I can't remember what size rivet I used last time,1/4" X 3/4" ,does that sound right?
Thanks,

Re: Galley sink drain

Joan Blaas

A primary collection point of the gray water outside of the engine room seems to be a great innovation on the A50.

Re: Galley sink drain

The basic design is the same with respect to gray water. All gray water gravity-drains to a central single tank and is then pumped overboard.

The location of the Amel 50 gray water tank changed because of the design constraints of the rest of the boat. And, it is a lot easier to get to tan previous Amel models.

Re: Galley sink drain

The Amel 50, 60, 55, 54, SM & others have a gray water tank that is filled by gravity-drained gray water. The tank has an automatic pump which pumps gray water overboard.

Sooner or later you will sell your Amel. Modifications contrary to long-standing Amel design that you might consider smart will be looked at by a large number of buyers as devaluing the Amel.

So, maybe it isn't smart.

Hi Seckin ,

We had a carbon fibre hard top made for us this year by FYS in Porto Cheli. Complete with solar panels , LED lights , solar screens at the side and back and for this winter we have designed a winter enclosure ( not unlike the original SM winter extension to the Amel Bimini but with far more headroom . )
We love it . It has taken an already generous cockpit to a new level .
That’s the good news . The bad news is that the man who made it has sworn never to make another ! He is a perfectionist . A keen sailor of a fast catamaran , he has built a number of carbon fibre hard tops for catamarans but this was his first SM hard top . I think it took him a lot more time than he had anticipated . As his last hard top it is a real tribute to his skills

I have posted some pictures on this site and will rustle up some more —- but not just now as it’ s raining in Kilada !
