Re: New Thread on A54 fridge pumps (ATTN: OLIVER Vela Nautica)

Paul, I was able to do it, so it can't be that hard :) It will take you a day to set up and requires a Windows computer to configure the software for the pump controller and interface between the Frigoboat interface and the pump controller. Point, click and load files. I would reach out to Oliver - he's a bit busy with a new child, but he will respond eventually. I can't speak for him, but I think he's intending on making a ready-to-install solution. That will probably make it easier to implement. I have no commercial interest in this nor do I want any. I wanted to get it early because I "only" had a few remaining flojet pumps aboard. And being in the South Pacific and hearing about Garulfo waiting months to get a new pump, I wanted a better solution ASAP. If you do it yourself, you'll need to get a bracket made to mount the motor and pump head, but that was simple and cost me $20 - it's just a bent piece of aluminum. Aligning the motor to the pump head was the most difficult part, but I did it with a cordless hand drill and a dremel. I'm sure the metal shop could do that part for you, too.

Re: Galley sink drain
Thanks for the post, Alan. Good to be able to think about potential improvements if we cannot sail or even realistically plan sailing soon. I am considering installing something similar on my A55 but the pictures are not clear to me since I’m not familiar enough with the SM. How is the exit hose from the tank run - which seacock does it use? I think it would be preferable to have a macerator pump deal with what goes into the tank so there is no issue with the usual kitchen residue like coffee grounds and, indeed, pasta going down the drain.

I would also be interested in getting this new pump. I haven’t followed this thread in derail but I do seem to recall that it was custom built, so would this be a problem for the “lay” owner?

Hi all,
I cannot comment on longevity yet because I have not run the brushless for longer than six months, which was my average lifespan of the Amel Spec'd Flojets. Time will tell but so far the energy savings has continued and the freezer definitely is colder. Earlier I had to keep the freezer at MAX and now I have it set at 4-5 and more of the food stays frozen. Same climate (French Polynesia) and same amount of food in the freezer.
FYI I run the two galley fridges and the saloon freezer at all times.

Hello Oliver,
how long did these pumps last with you so far?
How is it possible (for laypeople) to get these pumps (ready for use)? Best regards Stefan A54 #119 Lady Charlyette, currently Exumas

Also sometimes they become stuck in a closed position without losing all their oil if this is the case soak them overnight in Coca-Cola and then hit them with a hammer they should spring back open

Inside Tips - "How to work with a broker to Buy or Sell your Amel" - ZOOM also simulcast and recorded on YouTube When: Where: Organizer: Bill Rouse brouse@... 8323804970 An RSVP is requested. Click here to RSVP Description: All,
It is my true pleasure to announce our next ZOOM meeting for 10 April at 2000 UTC.
The Subject of this meeting is “How to work with a broker to Buy or Sell your Amel." Included will be tips from one of the world's most experienced Amel brokers, Joel Potter.
I asked Joel Potter to place some of his Amel knowledge and his love of the brand aside for this ZOOM meeting. I asked Joel to use his experience to help you understand how to best work with a yacht broker as a Buyer and as a Seller. I also asked him to provide you with some inside information and tips on how to work with any broker. I do not think that you will find this “inside information” and tips anywhere.
If you own an Amel, someday you will be selling her and a few tips can be worth thousands. If you plan on buying an Amel, chances are you will hear advice that will be “priceless.”
Joel Potter began his Amel selling career 40 years ago in 1981. Since that time and up to the present Joel has sold Amel yachts, almost exclusively. In 2015, Joel retired from selling new Amel boats after nearly 35 years of being Amels exclusive representative for all of North America in order to concentrate on selling preowned Amel boats.
Joel has sold some Amels multiple times, first when they were new and up to 6 times as resales. Without a doubt, Joel knows Amels and he is one of the few brokers in the world that I recommend. Joel is amazingly linked to Amel and one of Amel’s biggest supporters. Joel has also personally owned two Super Maramus and an Amel 54. The zoom link is:

Re: Bonding and Solar Power System
Just my tuppence worth.....
Under the salt water, the RF (SSB) ground and the bonding to the zincs are electrically connected through the salt water. I can't see it would make any difference which one you connected it to. I can't see that in the event of a lightning strike or near strike, either will protect you. None of our instrument "ground" connections are connected to anything. The bonding is for corrosion protection for the metal parts in the boat that are in contact with sea water. The RF (SSB) "ground" is the ground plane counter balance for the SSB antenna during SSB transmission. Cheers Alan Elyse SM437

Hi Mark, Thank you, I am using the same setup that was on my old Yanmar. I just had to take off the serpentine belt and change the pulleys to accommodate a V belt. Since the alternator that came with the new engine was not an isolated ground and I did not want to use it as I have a spare from the old engine. I also swapped the senders from the old engine to the new engine. Amazingly when I plugged in the harnesses, it all worked. Amazing !! Fair Winds Eric

Hi Eric, In case you need a new tensioning bracket for this alternator and engine, I found that the Balmar Belt Buddy w/Universal Adjustment Arm fits and works fine. I just had to "invert" it and move the tensioning hardware to the other side of the bracket. I bought mine on amazon but all major ships chandlers sell it. Hi Bill, the Raymarine AIS installation manual states: The AIS700 includes a dedicated grounding point to reduce potential damage caused by near
lightning strikes. The Grounding point should be connected to your vessel’s RF ground. Do NOT connect to any point
that is connected to your vessel’s 0V Negative battery terminal.
-- The VHF has the same recommendation. So, in your opinion, is it better to ground these instruments to the RF (SSB), or to the galvanic bond system? As always, thank you for your input Adam Body "Flora" SM128 Annee 1994
