It´s time to introduce ourselves. We started our sailing careers in 1978 (Anke) and (1985) Martin. Since 1998 we spent our time sailing SV “Just do it” a bilge keel 39 feet Reinke Super 11. This is a double chine aluminum design of German engineer Kurt Reinke. Sailing areas have been Baltic Ocean and North Sea. From 2004 to 2009 we made a circumnavigation including Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego. Here it happened after meeting Mariolina Rolfo and Giorgio Adrizzi and their Amel "Saudade III" in Ushuaia that we decided if we ever would buy a GRP design it has to be an Amel. In 2016 we changed to our 54 Mago del Sur (ex Bronwyn owned by Robin Griffith who did a circumnavigation with her from 2011 to 2013). During the last years she got a refit and now she is ready to start milemunching again. Ok, there are still one or two repairs to be done ... Anke and I are landscape architects. She is civil servant in the Government of Bremen, I Martin had run my own company for environmental impact studies and landscape architecture. We plan to sail the Med in 2021 and leave for Caribean waters end of the year. Than continuing through the Panama Chanal and heading South to Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego again. I remember perfectly about you and also for me nostalgia for that remote corner of earth is always very strong. After almost 30 years of cruises, I keep thinking that an Amel was the best choice I could do and if I ever change Saudade III will be for another Amel! Most SM & 54 owners are aware that sooner or later they will need to replace the Secondary Saltwater Manifold which was made by Amel from copper pipe. Here is a view of the original SM Secondary Saltwater Manifold:
There have been some very good after-market stainless steel manifolds produced by various sources including the one below made by Emek Marine for around 1,000 euro. The one below was installed on BeBe SM 387.
I have taken on the project to find the best replacement for this manifold. Many of you are aware that Amel has switched to a PVC manifold for saltwater distribution and eliminated both the Primary and Secondary Saltwater Manifolds that are common in SMs and 54s. The supplier to Amel is SOFOMARIN, France. I have been working with SOFOMARIN to design a suitable replacement for the Secondary Saltwater Manifold in SMs & 54s. What is shown below is 60cm wide and will fit all of the SM hoses and will work on the 54 by keeping one of the far left outlets closed and capped. All of the hose barb connectors included are an exact match to the original hoses used in SMs and 54s. If you are not in Europe, the 35mm hose barb on the right side is virtually impossible to find.
The above PVC manifold will cost around 350 euros from SOFOMARIN in France. Before I take this to the next level, I would like to see how much interest we have in this group. If any owner has the original copper Secondary Manifold, I believe you should consider this replacement.

Yes it is a beautiful river ,many think the most beautiful on the Bay ,including me. I have been here since I was four ,just turned 70 Saturday. It has hardly changed in all those years,unspoiled to this day ,with many great places to anchor. When you were here ,you may have seen hangliders being towed up by a boat or just flying about, that was me a couple of friends. We flew three days a week for a few decades ,soaring the cliffs and looking for thermals. If ever here again, drop a hook in front of our pier .

At the time I was in Philly working for the Insurance Company of North America (very long history), they became CIGNA, then, ACE, now Chubb.

Matt, I went with Gary at Manifest Marine in June,he has been very responsive. Could I ask which insurance co. he put you with ,and if you like the coverage or policy provisions . I am with Windsor Mount Joy , whom I have had my home owners policy with for years and the travel restrictions are tight.

Hi Jeff, At the mud hole and at the edge of the canyon we always run into the draggers. I call their moves a crazy Ivan like in the Russian subs. The long lines are also something to look out for.
