Dinghies are such personal choices. And storage of rib’s can be a real pain. Obviously from the comments so far.
We have kept our AB 9.5 foot aluminum hull rib athwartships on the aft deck. It fits, allows us access around it on both sides, and the hand rails supply convenient tie down points. There is, however, a significant safety issue with that: It renders the emergency tiller unusable. That bothers me. I wouldn’t go to sea without an emergency tiller, so how can I justify go to sea without on I can use??? It really rough conditions, I also worry about putting more load on the handrails then they were designed for. We have worked out a tie down method for the forward deck that keeps the deck clear, and doesn’t require any additional deck penetrations. When we get back to Harmonie I’ll get some photos. I have been in deck sweeping seas with a dinghy on the foredeck in my pre-Amel days. Waves serious enough they left knee deep water in a center cockpit, and broke stanchions when they hit folded down solar panels. The dinghy did fine. That experience has forever made me leery of storing things tied to stanchions. On the other hand, I have a friend who had a foredeck secured hard-hull fiberglass dinghy stove in by a boarding wave. But it didn’t go anywhere. Personally, I would never go to sea with a dinghy “right side up” on the foredeck, or anywhere else for that matter. A large wave could fill it, and the resulting weight would be a real disaster in the making in weather that rough. But that’s just me... We had to replace ours as well. The housing cracked and there was no way to keep the bulb in place after the old one crashed and shattered on deck. We had no luck at all finding USA distribution for that particular AquaSignal model light fixture. We managed to source the LED version of the entire fixture on eBay through a supplier in Lithuania, of all places.

We have German Infranomic infrared mirrors in both of our heads (replacing the mirrors over the sink) and they are outstanding. Instant heat, no moving parts, won't wear out, and large high quality mirror. I am away from KAIMI but I think they were 700 watt. True, and doable, but be careful. Reversing valves are very sensitive to the heat of soldering/brazing. If done by someone who doesn’t know what they’re doing, the reversing valve will be ruined.

Paul,

We spent a few seasons in southern Tasmania. Around 43deg south. We have the amel installed diesel heater. Running the heater in the morning for a few hours then again in the evening. Overnight temperature 2 to 6 C. We managed in these conditions. The best thing we have Running is a large dehumidifier this makes the air much dryer and gives a warning effect. Otherwise you may have condensation on the inside surface areas. Enjoy your cruise Michael Nebo sm251

I have a 54 with Webasto forced air heating system fitted by Amel in the factory from new. The unit itself is located high up in the port cockpit locker with the exhaust straight out the port topside. The air intake is in the mizzen sheet/halyard cubby hole. The system works well, and I make a point to run it every now and then even in the summer. Nick S/Y Amelia AML 54-019 Leros Greece.

You have 2 accumulator tanks in the freshwater system. One at the freshwater pump, and one behind the generator.

Dan, that tank is mounted behind the generator and is the expansion tank for the water heater. I bought that tank at an agriculture water pump shop in Australia. It was replaced in about 2008 and I am sure needs replacing. I bought one twice the size as the original. You should be able to find one anywhere that water-well pumps are sold.

Dan, It is probably the rubber bladder that separates the water from the air inside the accumulator. Since SM 387 was new the accumulator tank was replaced only one time about 7-8 years ago. I bought the tank from Amel. The Shurflo 3400-002 is a direct replacement for the upgraded pump #88B, but you have 66B. I would say it is time. I did not try replacing the bladder. I understand that this can be done. Possibly someone here can give you input on that. You may have trouble locating the tank. TF Marine made pump HA-60, the photo below. Dan,
I had the same issue when I bought Cara. It turned out to be a pinhole leak where the bracket was spot welded to the tank. I had my fabricator fix the leak but another leak popped up right away so I just replaced the accumulator with a new one. Shurflo part number 3400-002 is a direct replacement for the Amel OEM one. SM Fresh water pressure tank
Hello, my fresh water pressure accumulator tank is loosing pressure and then the pump has to cycle frequently when using water. I have added air to the tank a number of times now and it escapes over a few days. I also removed the air fill valve and inspected and put silicone on the rubber seal and valve. Hello and all the best for 2021, Our Amel 54 #162 was the showboat on the Paris 2010 and Düsseldorf boat show in 2011, so already with lot of extra things - but no diesel heating -when we made the contract on the Boatshow in Paris. So thanks to my wife it was fixed in the contract, that Amel will do the installation of the Webasto airheating system. They did it in perfect way and told us, that it is the extra with bigges work to add after the boat is already built.That time pricelist showed for Dieselheating 11.000 €+Vat when order comes with the boat. We are very happy with the heating. Essential also in the Med-sea. We never used the AC for heating. The only way for heating while sailing is a dieselheating. My recommendation: If you are in La Rochelle and Amel could make the installation a Webasto air dieselheating would be my first choice. Modification with one extraoutlet near the helmstation with possibility to shut down. Hello!
We plan a trip to Nordkap the coming summer, so some sort of heater would be necessary. To install a typ Webasto water born heater would be rather expensive and a not so straight forward installation, without compromising the water tight bulkheads. A too big job and investment for only one season. So looking to alternative solutions. Have anyone replaced the old AC unit with a new one that also work as a heat pump and provide heat? what was your experience, especially with the heating? Any brand to be recommended. Our AC units looks a bit corroded and guess approaching the end of it's life span, so even if the cost is about the same it might make more sense long term.
