Amel 55 Webasto install
Billy Newport
My Webasto is acting up and stopping during operation. Normally, there would be a switch with on/off and a LED to indicate fault codes. There is also a fuse block with a F1 (20A), F2 (5A) and a F3 (20A).
Amel custom installs this heater so there is no "normal" switch and no normal fuse block. There is a heater start/stop on the DC breaker panel by the nav table. This normally starts/stops it. There is on a box on the fwd bulk head in the engine room a white box with bilge/inverter/heater breakers. If the panel is removed then there is also 2 x 2A fuses seemingly attached to the harness from the webasto. My question is how is this all wired up? Is the breaker in the engine room the normal switch? Are the 2 2A fuses F1/F2/F3 or something else? The amel manual doesn't really cover this much. The LED in the engine room does not flash in my case to indicate the fault code. The heater was running 24/7 for about 2.5 months before it stopped while I was away and I have managed to get it to run twice since returning but it shuts down again with no code after 10-18 hours of normal operation. When I got the boat, the pressure guage for the heater was 0 bar. I added water to the circuit, bringing it up to 1 bar and when it ran, the pressure rose to just under 1.5 bar. When I returned this weekend after it stopped, I noticed the cold pressure was back to 0 again. I recharged it to 1 bar and the heater worked later that night but not when I recharged it. When it stopped today, the pressure was still normal (1.4 bar hot). Without the code, it's hard to get any remote help. I cannot get out of lock mode (when it stopped with a fault) without knowing where F1/F2/F3 are. Any help appreciated. |

Hi everyone I noticed that several SM owners seem to have an interest in a hard top - including myself. At one point in time we might consider a group order, assuming we can identify a model / manufacturer, and should an interest be confirmed. Hi
i run the Webasto from remote over gsm. Boat is in the water some 500km away in Sweden. It gets cold now and then so i use it if the radiators should not be sufficient. You can can find the swedish supplier here : https://gsm-start.se/en/ Attaching some pics showing possibilities. \Peter @ SY Maiken A54 #52 |

Hello Halsinger;
Nice looking hard top. Do you have more pictures and/or videos that show more detail?
Where did you have this top fabricated?

Here is our hard top on S/Y Lady Annila, SM 232.
It has been there since 2010 and during 2020 we hade it renovated. On top we have 2 solar panels 364 W each. (And an orher three on the arch)

Webasto thermopro question
Billy Newport
I'm living on my 55 right now which is in the water in jersey city, nj. I was away visiting family over christmas. I have a raspberry pi on my boat running the usual IOT stack (RTL433/Influxdb/telegraf/grafana/vncserver). This PI is connected to a wifi hotspot on the boat for remote access. It captures all NMEA data and temperatures (cheap 433mhz temp/humidity sensors distributed around the boat), room temps, fridge freezer temps, frigobaot compressor temps, engine room temps and so on, stores it in a database and uses grafana to look at data which is super handy to figure out what the hell just happened.
I noticed saturday (logged in to the raspberry from Ohio using vncserver) evening that on Friday at 8pm the temp in the boat started dropping. Heater issue. So I drove 8 hours back to the boat arriving about 4am. I got the heater working again yesterday so we're toasty again. The heater appears to have no display or even LED that I can see so I can't see why it stopped. Does anyone have a display on theirs or is there a way to do a wifi type situation where it can be checked remotely or restarted remotely? Billy (55#56) |

The two Vacuum-Epoxy-Lightweight-Parts where made in Le Marin by ALIZE COMPOSITES (Manu). It is the same company made the not any longer existing mold for the hardtop. All other (small) modifications/ materials came also from the yard in Le Marin. The rest was a lot of manual work by ourselves.
The old bimini frame is still used. A very functional and economical variant. It carries 680W solar, collects rainwater, allows a very good all-round view, has an integrated grip edge and the sails can also be visually checked from the armchair. My wife just uploaded a video about this at: https://youtu.be/7GIHQd4l3FI Best regards Stefan A54 #119 Lady Charlyette, currently Exumas |

Re: Deck
International Reps I spoke to advised that Brightside has been discontinued and now replaced by Toplac which is why you will see that sites like Amazon have it listed as CURRENTLY UNAVAILABLE and not sure if it will be available in future.

Re: Deck
We used International Toplac Ivory with about 10% Toplac Cream as international no longer make Brightside. The mix was a very good max. We brought the Beugler tool but didn’t use it as we felt we got a much straighter line using masking tape and once it was masked it was very easy to paint two coats using an artist brush.
