Re: Twisted chain - Amel 54
Hi
In 5 years I never had twisted chain issues, with 80m galvanised chain, anchoring about 120 times a year in the past 3 years. I personally installed a spade anchor, with a bow shackle to 3 links of chain, then a kong swivel, then my 80m chain. (The 3 links of chain avoid the swivel ever having a lateral load which would exceed its capabilities.) Regarding the stainless steel jumping on the gypsy, I believe stainless steel stretches or elongates and some links don’t fit so well on the gypsy any more. Re: A54 fridge circulation pump
Oliver Henrichsen, SV Vela Nautica
Hello,
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
Yes I think my setup its a way to get rid of all the problems this old system had. Yes I carry these parts double as spares because I run a prototype. In total its so much cheaper than one original pump so its no problem to carry spares. And the parts used are much smaller and lighter, while much more powerfull, than the original pumps. The VESC speed controller is developed by Mr Vedder, a clever swedish, and used in many DIY and comercial scooters, scateboards, eSurfboards with much higher power demands than our little pump. So its a prooven system. My fridge/freezer controller is part of the ship Computer system and connected to NMEA2K bus. The original thermostats are no more used. Instead precise electronic thermometers are in both devices. The controller checks on these thermometers and decides about cooling needs. If one unit is above set threshold the controller looks also for the other and if ever possible colls both at the same time. This will further reduce working time of the raw water pump. The controller sends serial commands to the VESC. but the VESC is very versatile so its also possible to regulate it in a simple way Oliver A54#39 Vela Nautica Portugal Sent from my Huawei Mobile

Re: SM Bow thruster wiring diagram?
Eamonn Washington
Hi Mark
no, your box looks neater that my older box. I contacted Amel but they do not have the 20cm jack-screws anymore. Then we put the wires back the original way, and physically reinstalled the up/down motor upside down and all was OK! Problem solved. Re: SM deck maintenance-Polytrol_ORIGINAL RAL COLOR for thin strips
Yes is still brown, but the pigment went partially away, so I can
see the under layer as the deck color, after 11 years sailing
around the sun/UV world.

Hi Peter;
The 6 shrouds for the main ran right about 5,000 Euros with tax and without shipping. The labor will run at or about 1,000 euros or less, if Nicky does it for you. He is a really fast and knowledgeable rigger. If you have other issues on your rig, like anemometer or lighting issues, he can take care of it all. You would have to pay his flight cost to wherever you are.

Can you give me a round number price indication for ACMO kit and install labour?
I’m thinking of doing same next winter.

Hi Nick;
Amel has already worked out the pin size issues you are addressing. We had the same concerns, but after talking to ACMO, found out they have simply gone to a stronger material for the pins and kept the pin sizes the same as existing. You will receive everything required to make the change from ACMO. No changes to the boat are required in any way.
We just replaced all shrouds at the main with zero issues.

Nick,
ACMO will ship you what you need...they know what you need and have been doing this for a while.
Regarding your question about substitutes of wire, etc., That needs to be answered by the 54's designer, Amel. I am sure their advice is to use the ACMO solution, since they worked out this solution with ACMO.
Hopefully, you are aware that the two intermediate shrouds also changed since the 54s introduction to 10mm, rather than 8mm.

I checked with Davis’ Pub (Eastport) for Thursday evening. They do not take reservations but said they are not too busy between 5:00 and 6:00 so seating for 10 or so should not be a problem. Let’s shoot for 5:30. Alan and Kent/Iris have expressed interest in dinner. All are welcome aboard Aletes earlier in the afternoon to talk about the exciting topic of Amel maintenance. Please confirm attendance at either event. Looking forward it! Mike Ondra Aletes SM#240

For the maintenance/repairs “forum” (sounds way too formal) I have RSVP’s so far from Jay Pokorski and Charles (SV Saturn). We’ll meet on Aletes (anchored at the mouth of Back Creek…unless weather pushes an alternative anchorage…will advise) at 2:00 Thursday afternoon. Anyone land based or dinghy deprived that wants to attend let us know and we can arrange a pickup. Anyone is welcome to join us for beverages and dinner afterwards at Davis’ Pub. Aletes would like to host an Amel maintenance/repair forum on board either Thurs or Friday afternoon of Boat Show week. The idea would be to share everyone’s experiences with some of the unique equipment on our vessels.
Possible topics, and please add to the list, might include: Bow Thrusters, furling gearboxes (motorized and manual), battery strategies, deck finish (restoration and striping), anti-fouling, hard-won lessons and other tricks.
We’ll do it if there is interest, so let me know which day and additional topics. Bring your issues and get the insights of others.
