Yes, the decks are amazing. The former owner was an absolute perfectionist so the level of workmanship is outstanding.

Re: Twisted chain - Amel 54
Martin Bevan <Martin.bevanhome@...>
When Caduceus 54 #56 was new we had a large problem with the galvanised chain twisting and forming knots in the chain locker and jamming in the hawse pipe. This continued despite having a swivel at the anchor end and dropping the chain in deep water many times to take the twists out. Having put up with this for a number of years and some exciting anchoring issues we changed the chain in 2012 in the USA for an “identical” spec chain. We have never had a repeat of the problem. I can only assume that the original AMEL supplies chain was not exactly to standard.

Re: Twisted chain - Amel 54
I also have twisted chain after being at anchor all Summer. The twist makes the chain jump on the gypsy every 5 meters or so. So the fix is to find deep water and calm seas and let the chain and anchor hang for a while? I really don’t want to do that on the deck!

Thanks Paul. It has just been sold.

Re: How to disassemble Nirvana Furling Swivel?
Tom Whitehill
Thanks Bill, Alan and Tom Fisher (offline) for your help,
I was able to remove the inner sleeve (my terminology might be not accurate) by soaking the unit in kerosene over-night and using a vise to push it out the 'top' of the outer shell. 'Top' meaning its orientation as it would be if the mast were up. See pic of swivel in vise and of the separated pieces after the fact (the inner sleeve is top end down in the pic, sorry). Now, I'm looking at using a 'blind hole bearing puller' to extract the topmost bearing. I'm not sure how I'll get the bottom bearing out - maybe with a dowel as suggested by Tom F or figure out how to extend the length of the puller. I've measured the diameters of the bearings so I can get the correct sized bearing puller. Inner diameter = 1.75 inches = 44.45 millis Outer = ~2.25 inches ~= 57.15 millis

Congratulations to you. I am in the market for an SM and looked at Nunky a few times online. The deck looks simply amazing for her age, (redone in recent times perhaps?) and attention to detail was noticeable throughout the photos. May she keep you safe and happy:)

Hi Mark;
I second Bill’s remarks. Nicky has replaced rigging and performed other work on Kokomo. He is as conscientious and fast, as they come. I would highly recommend him.

Mark,
I am very happy that this worked out for you.
I have a Preferred Vendor in Malta who often travels Europe to install rigging. I highly recommend that you contact Nicky Sammut to install your ACMO rigging: Nicky’s Rigging & Marine Services ACMO is a recommended Preferred Vendor and will give you a discount. Be sure to share that quote with me to insure the discount.
Nicky has replaced ACMO rigging with ACMO kits on many SMs and 54s. He has also replaced Bamar Furlers on 54s with new generation Bamar and with Reckman furlers. I can assure you that you will not find a better rigger anywhere. He routinely works in Malta at Manoel Island Yacht Yard, which is also a Preferred Vendor and a great yard to haulot. Be sure to tell these Preferred Vendors that you are a client of mine in order to receive your discount. Manoel Island Yacht Yard
If you haulout at Manoel, be sure to have antifouling and polishing applied by Alex and his uncle:

Never had this problem with my Super Maramu. Anyway from now on each year I shall make a point of finding some deep water and letting all the chain out! Has anyone else experienced this twist problem?

Re: How to disassemble Nirvana Furling Swivel?
Tom, I am not 100% sure, but I believe the swivel balls, which encircle the swivel internally also hold the swivel halves together. Inside the top or bottom of the swivel you will find a plug of some sort, which when removed, you can remove the balls and separate the halves. Please let me know if this helps. --

Hi Oliver,
That is clever. It solves the problem of brushes and shaft seals in one go. Do you keep spares for the pump mechanism and for the motor/controller? What did you to to replace the pump-switch? Kind regards, Arno Luijten SV Luna, A54-121

Re: SM Bow thruster wiring diagram?
Andrew, he probably has the older version. Eamonn, There is a micro switch inside the control box which should be controlled by the rod and attached arm. Here is a photo of part of a page from my Amel Book that might help. My guess is that the new arm was fabricated incorrectly, or the micro switch is not working. --

Hi thanks for the diagram. It does not show the numbered wires in the box, but it might help. I also contacted Amel to see if they can provide the correct jack screw.
