Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Re: Vetus Alarm
I'm not sure what you could do on the liquid side. Once the transmission oil is sucked out by the seawater flowing through the (perforated) cooler, friction quickly builds up heat in the transmission

I think it is easier to just change the tranny cooler. The one for my yanmar is distributed in the USA for less
Than $200.

Alan,
Not to get all mechanically nerdy on you, but the "worm" is the helical drive piece on the input shaft, the "worm gear" is round brass part on the output shaft you are referring to as a "spur

Nice piece of bow art.
In my case, I have a 35KG ULTRA in SS of course. Not bad either!

Bill,
'That gear you show is the spur gear. The worm gear is the one attached to the motor shaft. In my experience (as per your photo) it's the spur gear that wears not the worm.

Worn Worm Gears in Furling Gearboxes
A question came up a short time ago about how much wear was "too much" on the brass worm gears in the Leroy-Somer gear boxes used on the SM mainsail furlers. At the time there were no good answers

I do not know what brand Kent used, but if you want an alarm on your boat for cooling water flow, or anything else, there is a good chance that you can find exactly what you want here:

Hi Craig,
I'll have to look it up when I get back to Kristy. It has an arm that hangs down into the hose and is deflected by the flow of water. Decreased flow->no deflection ->alarm

This is an Italian Type L grounded plug/socket standard, CEI 23-16/VII, that includes two styles rated at 10 and 16 amps. The Amel ones are 10 amp. I have purchased the Btinico brand of these plugs
