Perkins engine hours
I believe to have been told, that Perkins recommends a rebuild of the engine after 5000 hours of operation.
How does that match with practical experiences from owners of Maramu's and Super Maramu's

to the best of my knowledge Pantaenius would still cover you - even singlehanded. We have a 1984 Maramu (and in some respects envy you for the SM2000) and so far never had any troubles with

i do not believe the gold solenoid (made by valeo) was your problem.
the yanmar has a floating ground and the solenoid only closes the
negative side so the starter motor will work.

I intend to base my SM in the Windward Islands this
winter. Most probably Grenada at the Yacht Club Marina
in St. George's or St. Lucia at the Rodney Bay Marina.
I know both and both have seemed safe.

Yanmar excessive soot

On 5/13 you mentioned burning oil on your 4jh3hte. I have had "excessive
soot" on my port quarter since taking delivery 10/01 of hull #340. That is
over 800 hours. Do you also have this soot
