The previous (also the only previous) owner moved the starter battery into the engine room. I kind of think it's a good idea to have the engine start battery in the engine room, so I left it

Ir is indeed a voltage regulator intended to protect filament bulbs (particularly the tricolor) mounted on the mast. I had the exactly same installation on my SM 232.

If you specify mechanical fittings with ACMO, they will make your rigging kit with mechanical fittings where possible. You will find that mechanical fittings are not possible at all

I would think that the reason for the centrifugal pump is to eliminate the impeller changing on the Onan.
The impellers don't last very long in most cases. That's my experience also.
