Re: Many Yanmar owners can eliminate the fuel filter with the warer sensing wiring.
I believe that all Yanmars installed in Amels originally had a water sensor in the fuel filter assembly. This sensor does two things. It eventually cuts off the supply of fuel to the injection pump

Re: Vindvane on a 54?
I was the previous owner of Randall’s boat. Based on previous experience of short handed ocean sailing and being new to Amel with the 54, I thought I needed a wind and water powered self steering

Eric,
I have never had water in my fuel filter, perhaps as a result of my fuel polishing system, and would like to eliminate the wiring and sensor. Don't I need a different setup

Re: Another mystery parts question
The bolt is for the C-Drive oil drain. It was likely replaced with the V Bolt for the Spurs Line Cutter.

Thanks to all of you for your input,
affirming our decision not to add a windvane (though I would like to fuss with it ...).
At present we have a spare linear drive in a locker and an installed chain

Re: Vindvane on a 54?
Agree fully with Bill.
I took my hydrovane off and sold it. I would have loved it on my previous boat (Jeanneau 37). I'm not the best sail trimmer and if the boat went off course it meant releasing

Re: Vindvane on a 54?
I love windvanes. They are awesome pieces of mechanical kit. I have spent many hours on a long ocean passage just watching one, which can be endlessly fascinating to an engineering nerd like me.

Many Yanmar owners can eliminate the fuel filter with the warer sensing wiring.
If you have a 4jh Yanmar engine and your instrument panel does not have a light to indicate you have water in the filter
you can eliminate the expensive filter, wiring, and sensor. The only purpose

Hey Martin,
I believe when the solar panels and wind generators went on, the run your autopilot full time was less of an energy issue.
But with the newer tender davit, the hydrovane just had to go.

Yes, the bolt for using with line cutter has a V-cut at the head of the bolt. So this was perhaps before adding the line-cutter

No, the plug cannot be used for that in any way. It's just a bolt-type plug with an o-ring to create the seal.
