They should be straight. I bent mine early on when my boat was new to me. It was caused by the ballooner halliard getting wrapped round the foil. This prevented the swivel from turning so the motor

I can say that I witnessed the stabilizer rods bend in real time when I had the ballooner halyard get caught on the the rods while attempting to furl the twin headsails. The first thing that happened

I wouldn't use standard WD40 on anything on the boat at all.
It's hydrophillic i.e. it attracts water...it will clean and lubricate metal parts initially and then they will start to corrode in the
