YES Bob very good...but i doubt we could carry an anchor that size !!
However, I do remember many years ago Steve saying if people joke about the large size of your anchor, you've probably got it

Re: Lenght of anchorchain?SM2000
Related to recent discussions on this....an informative article on chain vs chain and rope in deeper anchoring. BTW gotta love Steve Dashew -- 3/8" 10mm chain and a 110kg 250lb Rocna--anyway--

We have 100m of Maggi Aqua 4 chain and 200m of rope.
We have only had to use the rope twice and that was in 30+ knots in French Polynesia.
We would prefer not to use the rope if at all possible.

Porter,
I’ve done your smoke test.
Yes, under the rapid throttle action, a puff of black smoke comes from our Volvo exhaust exactly as you describe. Not confidence inspiring! Hmmm.
I look forward

Lenght of anchorchain?SM2000
You experienced sailors of the Pacific and Carribian. How long is your anchorchain??? Do you use a swivel?

Hi Ruedi and Sabina,
Alas, we are land bound at the moment, back in London, bound for Brazil for the autumn in one of those aluminium tubes that sails in the air. We have left Pen Azen ashore in

I have had exactly the same problem with my chain since we bought the boat.
I have the ISO chain with 30mm inside dimension and the WASI powerball, now fitted to my gal Rocna. (Yes, I now have

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Anchor Chain twisted in the locker after using some times
Thank you Ian, I found the real issue.
I had a vertical windlass in my former boat, never had a twist issue. When the Chain locker is deep enough it shouldn't be that critical with "Verticals".

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Anchor Chain twisted in the locker after using some times
Thank you Bill & Bill
I learned a lot about ISO and DIN chains, - what the former owner unfortunately was not aware when he ordered a new Stainless Steel Chain in 2014!
Hope I can get the 202 Type

Thanks for the interesting article.I'm glad I don't have one of those, but if engine replacement becomes necessary in the future, this could be a real issue. We have 3600 hours on our Yanmar 4JH3HTE

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Anchor Chain twisted in the locker after using some times
As Bill R points out, varying chain standards are very frequently a source of trouble.
The best advice I received was is to always take the gypsy along with you when buying chain, and make SURE that
