If it was oil and water then it would have been the lip seal on the thruster prop shaft.
If it is 100% oil, then my guess is that you added more than .3 liters of oil to the thruster, or

The coatings on the motor are fine. What came out appears to be just oil. We just serviced the unit 4 months ago. I’m wondering if we may have added too much

Dave Wallace, SV Air Ops is who needed information about the stuffing box packing. I told him that 5/16” fits the packing gland on Maramu #220. Is the packing on your boat also

I used back rubber plugs. I cut them shorter. I installed them 2 years ago. I see no problem yet.
You can buy them from McMaster very inexpensive.
