Ralf, You might wish to try a home hardware store or camping van store. they should have one to fit. I don't think the company who made these are in business anymore. I tried replacing my a long time ago, but no one knew who made them. Aras Sharki #163 1988

Hi Amelians,
after 40 years, the hand basin on my Sharki is no longer attractive - says my wife. Does anyone know the manufacturer or dealer who still sells such sinks? Best Regards Ralf SV Baghira, Sharki #42

Hi Helen and Kostas,

As others have said there is a drain hole in the bottom of the rudder. The rudder is hollow and the drain hole is in the bottom near the front. Over time, particularly if you spend time in muddy estuaries the rudder can fill with mud. Get a hose and push water up into the hole having first opened the hole with a screwdriver/ egards Danny SM 299 Ocean Pearl

Helen,
If I had to guess, the hole at the bottom of your rudder is plugged with debris. Stick a screwdriver in there, rotate it around and it should loosen up any debris. Pour some water into the opening around the middle rudder/skeg bracket to help flush out the debris while you're doing it. Hope that helps. -- Scott 2007 A54 #69 SV Tengah http://www.svtengah.com

Re: Super Maramu rudder filled with water
Your SM had a drain hole at the bottom of the rudder. The hole must be clogged or someone filled it in.

Hello,
There is a hole at the bottom of my rudder (A54). When we lift the boat the sea water flows through this hole. Dominique

Dear all,
Our boat is out of the water at the moment and when we removed the zincs, a lot of water drained out. I seem to remember that there should be a drainage hole at the bottom of the rudder, is that correct? Or do we have another problem? Best regards, Helen and Kostas on “Meditation “, SM 29 of 1990

Re: Fresh Water Pump
Just wanted to circle back on my experience since starting this thread. We installed a Shurflo Aqua King II 4 gpm variable pressure (up to 55 PSI/3.8 bar) self-priming diaphragm type pump. No need for an accumulator tank and took no time to install. After six weeks, we are quite satisfied with the performance. We do not expect it to last as long as the other kinds of more expensive kit mentioned in responses from various owners (though some say their Aqua King has provided many years of service). But that also means we can carry one or two spares aboard and still be ahead. Those spares will likely be 3 gpm capacity as per Bill Kinsey's suggestion. Ian & Margaret S/V Loca Lola II SM153

Re: Forward Looking Sonar
Had to laugh at this! Exactly what we did last summer, Ken. The Erie Canal is 2 to 3 meters deep for most of its 310 mile length. If you wish to transit it in the same month, you run 6-7 knots! And I took out one Garmin transducer and one bow thruster as a result! Truthfully, it was not the depth so much as the debris in the water. I like the forward looking sonar, but in the canal all it did was scare you. We finally stopped watching it.

Re: Curtain Sizes for SM2000
Since I bought the Recmar wrinkle band plastic hooks (heard the metal ones can break the plastic holder plus need to be re-bent) for the window curtains that Karen mentioned from Curtain-Tracks, I also bought the Recmar eye slides from them for the closet curtains. https://www.curtain-tracks.com/recmar-3050-abs-plastic-eye-slide.html Thanks everyone!

Hi Bill, I don't want to give up my helm seat but I don't plan on using it for a couple of months still. I could ship it to your client to use as a form to have a shop build him one if I'm sure to get it back. Dennis

Hey Arno,Hi Craig, Have a look at the enclosed PDF. As you can see it's drawn in the early nineties. It is the top end of the C-Drive and it shows clearly the double lipped seal at the ingoing shaft of the C-drive. I'm not exactly sure about the build years of the different Amels but I'm pretty sure this drawing originates from the Super Maramu-era. As this is only a single seal my guess is they wanted to maximize its lifetime by using a double lipped seal. And about dust in the air, you should visit Curacao at some days, lots of Sahara Dust in the air. Typically our Amel is covered in the stuff after we collect her at the end of the hurricane season. Speaking from experience that dust works its way into everything. An intake filter is always a good idea. Cheers, Arno Luijten SV Luna, A54-121

Re: Does the faux teak prevent one From seeing damage before it is too late?
#solution
Hi Daniel,
Over time the decks can look quite ugly. I think this is true with every brand of boat. Some owners try to keep the original look. Others have taken a different turn. I don’t this there is a horrendous argument either way. I would suggest you do what you like, what fits your budget and the valuation of your boat.
We had a home in our neighborhood the owner painted purple. Most neighbors thought it was an ugly color. A couple of years later the house was put up for sale. Most neighbors thought it would not sell because of the color or the new owner would immediately repaint the house. It sold very quickly to people who liked the color purple.
So, no. It will not drastically reduce the value of your boat. Besides, if the new owner doesn’t like the color, you can perhaps tactfully tell them when it’s their boat they can paint it any color they want.
With best regards,
Mark
