We sold the boat two years later. We keep up with the new owner and the bubble has not reappeared, another two years later.

Rudder Dimensions

Hello all. Does anyone have the rudder dimensions for the Mango Rudder or perhaps a Super Maramu rudder? I am after the length (forward and aft) and the height (top to bottom) of the rudder. 

I looks at all the mango files and SM files and post and not find any. I really do not want to have to get into the cold water and measure it. It is to determine the load the rudder will put on the new autopilot actuator so I make sure I purchase the right size unit.

Hi woody the only thing that charges the starter battery is the engine alternator so if you don’t start it regularly it dies sorry 😞

Friends, I am having a devil of a time with installing a new freshwater diaphragm pump with adjustable pressure switch from 17-55 PSI. Even at a low setting for the switch, it is overpressurizing the system. This should not be.
In order to prime the system, I opened what I call the mystery valve (picture below). System then primed properly primed and the pump cycled off. After two hours, suddenly the water heater tank release valve blew. So I then joined the hoses and bypassed the water heater. Then the pressure gauge above the mystery valve developed a pin hole and is also leaking at its connections. 

Any ideas?

I replaced ours  four years ago in Martinique because of a large bubble. I wrote to Plastimo and asked them if more compass oil could be added. They responded by saying this model is a sealed design and if I have air, it is because there is a small leak somewhere. It turned out to be a good idea to replace it since the housing had become very brittle and easily cracked when removing it as you can see in the picture. It is worth noting there are screws securing the compass under the plastic plates on the compass. Four screws. Also, the new compass is LED and you cannot dim it. It is on or off. The LED is 12/24v. I had spare incandescent bulbs for the compass and I could have used these to keep the dimming function however, I opted to stick with the LED. Use silicone to waterproof the assembly.

 

The compass comes with calibration instructions. Ours was only off by 1° out of the box.

Hello,

Same happened on my previous boat few years ago. I just replaced it with new one. Cost was close to 200 Euro. It was easy, 1 hour work.  The old one I kept for emergency.

Mike, I considered binding absolutely necessary as we had berber carpet ,that wears very well ,but can unravel if not bound. I would think you would want to bound most carpet for the same reason and of course for appearance sake. As to traction, it has never shifted underfoot , probably because it fits tightly around the perimeter .We chose a short pile as it does not hide and hold sand etc. and can be easily vacuumed .

With the frustration of not finding a urethane foam backed broadloom carpet (apparently available in Canada, but not the US) I am considering a thick carpet without backing. My concern was about traction on the sole but if the carpet is heavy and penned in around the perimeter, slippage may not be an issue. And removing the attached pad constraint opens a world of options. Did you consider not binding the perimeter?

After cutting the pieces out we took them back and had them bind the edges. The new carpets fit as tight and as exacting as the original. We do not have foam backing ,I like the firm footing while underway ,if I had foam ,I would not want it very thick ,as it would not aid my balance on a rolling floor. The carpet still looks like new ,berber wears very well.
Our boat is in Haven Harbor north ,stopped by Haven Harbor south a few weeks ago ,but did not see your boat.

Sorry that didn’t work out. Thanks for letting me know it is no longer available. Too bad, carpet has lasted well for us and still looks good.

 

When I replace ours, I did consider another option. It was a plastic ribbed backing. Very high quality but a lot more money. The site I looked at made everything (binding, leather pull up tabs, etc.) and shipped pre-cut and ready to lay down. I’ll see if I can find it.

Have you considered roll neoprene.  It comes in different colors and thicknesses.  Supplier should be easy to track down.  Think wet suites
