Good morning Greg,

I paid once a year at the beginning of the insurance year (October for me).

I was likely to move to Y yachts, we had been in communication.

Sincerely, Alexandre

Alexandre,
I was wondering if
you paid all of the annual premium at the beginning of the
insurance year or were you paying it month by month? I used
to have Helvetia, I now have Y Yachts.

Good afternoon Danny,

The insurance is Helvetia/GroupAma contracted through
Insurance De Lassee.

Here is the latest, sorry it is in French see below:

In short, even thought my boat is a total loss, and even
thought my lawyer wrote them a letter after the January
letter saying I was late to pay the premium, I should have
sent a certified letter.

So now I am late for the payment and are going to take legal
action to get the paiement plus fees to recover that
paiement ?!?

This is absolutely crazy.

Well that was my concern.  It looks good on the new modern boats but is it practical if you are going to sail it.   Be nice to still be able to wedge against the bulkhead when its rough.

How to repair holes left by old electronics at nav station

Duane Siegfri

I have a Furuno GP7000 at the nav station that I'm going to replace with an ICOM M506-21 VHF radio (also has AIS RX and is N2K compliant).  This seemed like a good choice since it will be an AIS backup and includes the ability to add a remote handset, and has the PA/Foghorn features.

The Furuno has a face dimension of about 12" x 6" and the M506 has a faceplate of 7" x 4.5" so I need to cover the old cutout.

I'm thinking of dark plexiglass, but that tends to become less attractive over time as it dulls.  I don't think I would like bare aluminum, although I could paint the aluminum black...

Any other ideas out there?

Thanks,

Duane

Mark, I will third that , Scott was helpful to me with a couple of issues I had , and I too have recommended Scott and Pantaenius to friends , and at least one has switch over to them for coverage. I had a claim due to a nearby lightning strike and Pantaenius covered every penny of the claim without complaint . I think it is an appropriate use of this forum to convey both good and bad experiences members may have with vendors of any description. By doing so we may save fellow owners from a bad experience , and excellence is rewarded and poor performance is not. I just got a key fob , no pen.

We second this. Scott is an excellent resource and very easy to do business with. Unlike Joel, I didn’t get ink pens or key floats. Not sure what I did wrong J But, we still like Scott anyway.

We have recommended several people to Scott and every one of them have thanked us for the referral.

Hello Amel Folks.
I have used Scott Stusek to insure my Amel Boats and have recommended him to my customers with confidence. He has some solid traits to recommend him. He always tells the truth AND the whole story even when it is painful to do so. He knows his company’s policies and can delineate any area of concern in hairsplitting detail if asked to. He always returns phone calls pronto. Other than that…meh.

Joel & Vela,
I saw on the Amel forum where one of our insureds said we are no longer writing or updating current policies for full time south of the Fl/GA line.  This is not true.  We just have some changed requirements such as being able to conform to one of several named tropical storm plans.  We drafted the below email to try and clear up the potential controversy  If you could,  please post it on the Amel forum as its probably inappropriate for me to do so.  You can also say that after discussing with Scott Stusek, an underwriter at Pantaenius America you discovered the following details….  Feel free to call me to discuss beforehand if you would like.

Scott Stusek
Pantaenius America, Ltd

Scott, below if the response to be posted on the Amel forum.  It was written assuming Joel will be posting. Please let me know if he has an issue posting it.

Pantaenius insured vessels that fall within their current guidelines absolutely have coverage while below 30.5 degrees north latitude if the Cruising Area stated on their declaration pages allows.
With regards to coverage during storm season,  (July 15th through November 1st ) , Pantaenius requires that the vessel be secured per Pantaenius storm requirements. Pantaenius now offers options for insured clients to choose how best to secure their vessel—one of which is to move the vessel out of the path of the storm.
It is important to recognize that Pantaenius America will cover your vessel in the event of a named tropical storm as long as you comply with your stated requirements.  It is also very important to understand that outside of the storm season (again storm season for Pantaenius America is July 15 – November 1st), this storm warranty does NOT apply.  Bottom line: Pantaenius is still offering coverage for Florida and the Caribbean even during storm season.

Sincerely,

Hi Porter,

Assuming the 54 is configured like the SM and SN's, no, you'll need to uncouple the engine from the C drive and slide the engine back remove the tranny.  While you could remove the C drive top cover, you still would not be able to remove the drive shaft (still coupled to the tranny) as it goes through the "trumpet" housing.

Have fun,

Jeff,

I am insured south of 31N to 7 n from November 1 to July 15 with Pantaenius.

I am also insured from 60 w to but not including the Panama Canal.

One time due to a storm we had to sail to about 54 w to get around it.

After we did that they said at Pantaenius that we would have been covered if we were heading outside the limits due to the storm.

We probably have the same policy.

I recently spoke to Scott about my policy. I am covered down to 7N. I was following the insurance thread but not totally, and perhaps misread the navigation limits that were discussed.  My understanding is that getting a policy from Pantaenious isn't a given, but i was not denied coverage south of 31N
