I hope to replace the original with the new pump, and use the original as a backup. Also, I am replacing my burket fresh water valves (for the head water flow). I was told the new replacement # was 221602. I know other owners have replaced their valves. Is this the number part you used? There was also a rebuild kit. Anyone have the kit #, and the company offering it for sale? Again, I'll replace the originals (both have issues) with the replacements, and rebuild the originals and keep them as spares. We replaced the expensive Italian Calpeda pump installed by Amel with this: https://www.coastalclimatecontrol.com/index.php/product-catalog/product/260-march-1500-gph-115-230v.html. It works much better than the Calpeda (very old technology and expensive parts - also not suitable to ground to the bonding system). The March pump doesn't need to connect the housing to the bonding system since it is plastic where seawater touches (you will need to connect to the ground). If you wish to purchase the Calpeda pump, Coastal Climate is the USA dealer: https://www.coastalclimatecontrol.com/index.php/water-pumps.html They are the people who recommended the March pump to me and it has worked well for 3+ years. It was an easy swap as the foot print and hoses are similar. You need to jump the wiring to make it 220v (instructions are included – very easy to do)

Banjo Bolt Torque Spec

Does anyone have the torque spec for the banjo bolts (oil lines) on the Yanmar 4JH3-HTE? There are M10, M15 and M20 bolts in the banjo fitting as noted in the Parts List (this is the thread size not the bolt head size). I don't see it in either the Op Manual, or the Service Manual. Paul, Just a couple of miles from where you are in Georgetown is Outstanding Marine , a Volvo dealer 1410 275 1200 , ask for Rhonda. I think you said you are hauling your boat tomorrow , I will stop by. Georgetown gets their parts from Outstanding and marks them up a bit.

Wow. Good stuff. We own a 1980 Sharki #15. And love it! Have a problem now with the sea water pump dripping water from the openings behind the impeller casing. Does anyone know if this ia an urgent matter to attend to or could I safely motor for a few more hours. It only seems to leak after the engine has been turned off. Cheers, Warren Manon2

I'm not sure what you could do on the liquid side. Once the transmission oil is sucked out by the seawater flowing through the (perforated) cooler, friction quickly builds up heat in the transmission but there won't be any liquid in the lines to the cooler. You would have to put a sensor on or in the transmission case.
Replacing the cooler every 2,000 engine hours might do it (as suggested), limiting the time the cooler has to corrode. Checking on the bonding wire occasionally would also be a good idea, I believe that was the problem with my boat. The failure happened within the first 10 engine hours of my ownership. I just wanted to note that sensors on the seawater lines were not going to protect the transmission. Duane

I'll chime in here with one more thought. A "low flow" alarm won't help with an over-temperature problem with the transmission.
I had a situation where the tranny heat exchanger rusted out and the flow in the seawater hose sucked out the transmission oil, which overheated the tranny resulting in a ruined transmission. If I had another heat alarm on the transmission, it might have protected me from the failure. On the good side, I have a very new transmission and damper plate. Duane Wanderer, SM#477

Alan, Not to get all mechanically nerdy on you, but the "worm" is the helical drive piece on the input shaft, the "worm gear" is round brass part on the output shaft you are referring to as a "spur gear." Again, being very technical, a "spur gear" has a very different tooth geometry than a "worm gear." and is not used with a worm drive. Gears are round things with teeth around the edge, the "worm" in a "worm drive" is--technically--not a gear. Especially in the Leroy-Somers boxes, I completely agree the worm does not wear at any significant rate. It's made of steel. The brass gear (by whatever name) is the part that wears. If I confused anybody by being overly jargon-ish in my writing, the part I was referring to was the round gear made of brass with teeth in the edges connected to the output shaft of the gearbox. NOT the helical part off to the side that is driven by the motor.
