Got both of my deck floodlight bulbs (one on each mast) from Boatlamps… but the bases were good and quite specific to Amel. Two lateral lips hold the bulb in place. I recall they were 80W and coincidentally… £80 +… each. Cheers, JP

Using a 110V power-strip on 230V boat?
eric freedman
I put a triple cigarette lighter outlet in a cabinet in the V berth. I used a step down converter to supply 12 volts and have 3 cigarette lighter UBS plugs and cables for my guests. That keeps their electronic stuff off my nav station. I installed an inline fuse and hooked up to the reading lamp over the starboard bunk. Fair Winds Eric Kimberlite Amel Super Maramu #376

Bill,
Good point about the guests!
We don't use anything on the boat that is 110 only, so that's not an issue for us...all of our appliances are 230V/50hz. All the battery operated equipment is 110-240V and 50 or 60hz. The outlets and microwave are full time 220V 50hz thanks to the inverter that powers that breaker. I decided to do it that way so we wouldn't have to stop and think about what was powering the outlets.
We have lots of EU to USA adapters, it's more just convenience to have a power strip with multiple outlets to charge computers and cell phones all in one place.
Thanks for your thoughts and keep 'em coming! Duane

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Re: Moorings near Manhattan

Hi Paul, Huntington is about 4 hours by boat from Hells Gate.
When you go through Hells Gate try to get there 1 hour after the tide heads south. Look behind you as there is a lot of big commercial traffic and it is a relatively small channel. Make sure you keep Roosevelt island to port when you get to the split in the channel. The east channel of Roosevelt island has a 40 foot bridge. Also do go through in daylight, there are often huge pieces of broken off docks floating just at the surface. Some are as big as telephone poles with big bolts sticking out.
I do not know about anchoring at the statue of liberty, I believe you can. I do not have charts at home. However there are places to anchor in Huntington and the adjoining harbor, Northport. Fair Winds Eric Kimberlite Amel Super Maramu #376

We will probably sail to NY tomorrow and arrive friday evening. Plan to anchor behind statue of liberty according to active captain it should be OK, do you know if it is OK to anchor there? Where is Huntington Yacht club? Can one anchor there or do we need to take a buy? You can contact me on sykerpa@... Paul on SY Kerpa SM#259

Thank you so much Jean-Pierre, Perfect. Would you also happen to know the mast flood lights? I know that I definitely need one of these, it is not install. What is the type of light and fixture? I am hoping that the fixture is somewhere onboard. Chris

I have the SH cockpit repeater as well and they work fine together. I consider the cockpit repeater a wise addition. I sail single handed most time so having to rush below to answer a radio call is not very practical or safe. Not sure of fitting type as I am not on the boat at this time… I recall 15D perhaps… https://boatlamps.co.uk/collections/led-lamps/products/ba15d-18-smd-5050-led-lamp Don’t forget the mast floodlights… makes a huge difference. I added some lights so I may be off on the count for your boat: count 11 overheads and 7 lamps. On my boat, I changed all fixtures to a modern SS design and they all have the same 15D bulbs. Buy 3-4 extras for each type. 50000 hours is not quite factual… My first ones failed lots; the new ones from boatlamps are great. (Your kids are unlikely to leave the lights on… wont reach most switches! :-) Regarding your Goiot hatches, they are “Tradition” and you should contact them for a replacement acrylic. The forward head hatch is frosted to avoid peeping Toms… Good luck. Jean-Pierre Germain, SY Eleuthera, SM 007

Hi Duane, we have a car type cigarette lighter socket at the nav station and at the helm, both on 12 v. Using a plug into this with a USB port we use these to charge phones, ipads and camera batteries, saves the power draw of running the inverter when at sea. For our NZ purchased lap top (230v) the charger works OK off 110v. Regards Danny SM 299 Ocean Pearl

Bill, I thought the two button would be the way to go , didn't see the need for a light . The port locker seems like a good place to mount it , I will go with that.

We mounted the socket for the connection on the aft bulkhead in the port side bow locker, since that is usually open anyway when we are anchoring to access washdown hose, snubber, etc. Other people have mounted remotes in the forward cabin. I'd rather not have to open that hatch if it was raining out, but I don't see one choice as a lot better than the other.
In any case, keep the socket pins coated with CorrosionX or other suitable material. The way Amels are wired the control circuit is powered up all the time when you are sailing. If it gets damp, stray currents can cause the pins to corrode.

Re: SM Anchor Wash Pump
I forgot to add that it runs fine if I don't use the nozzle to increase pressure of the water stream. It's the same nozzle I used on the old pump without problems. I guess I could just leave the nozzle off and use my thumb intermittently to knock off stubborn mud. It that what others are doing?
Per Bill R's tip, I purchased a 12v model cheap on EBay which is very similar, but has inlet and output fittings on one side (instead of one on each end). I haven't tried yet, but I'm pretty sure the 24v motor will mount easily on the 12v model's pump housing without modification. Thanks again for any thoughts on this. Kent
