Galley sink drain

Alan Leslie

Hello Amelians,

This is actually an old topic, but I couldn't find any definitive answers.
For years we have been rinsing dishes and emptying coffee grounds in the cockpit to avoid fouling the grey water "tank", and I'm tired of that inconvenience.
Has anyone in the group installed a thru hull in a SM to drain the galley sink directly to the sea?
If so, where did you locate the thru hull, as it is almost impossible to have it on the centreline?
Did you have issues on stbd tack with water coming up through the drain?
Clearly any thru hull needs a valve to close it off, so that would solve that issue, but I also thought of having a 3 way valve so the drain could be diverted to the grey water tank when at sea.
Any advice/ ideas welcome.

Cheers
Alan

One year ago, I installed a Code Zero. I wanted to do without a bow sprit and after a lengthy discussion with the sailmaker ( North ) and the rigger, we finally decided to use, as attachment points, the central roller for the bow and the small aluminium nose at the Masthead end, adding an external halyard.
I was afraid that the rolled Genoa and the rolled Code zero would sit too close for safe handling but, as it was, they resulted perfectly parallel, at a safe distance and worked impeccably, The attachment to the central bow roller is the simplest thing: a dynema closed loop doubled around the roller and blocked by a common shackle to the stay sewn into the Code.
Also the reefing line is a closed loop, brought back to the cockpit and, via a block on the rail, to the electric primary which, giving us (aged couple), the. pleasure of an electrically operated furling and unfurling

The AMEL website has a timeline of the models under the "Our Story" section:  https://amel.fr/en/our-story/

Maybe it will be helpful?

Re: Original inverter on SM 2000

I do not believe there was an option for an inverter, but if you purchased an inverter, Amel would install it during the boat build.

I am not 100% sure of this, but when SM 387 was built, there was a charge from Amel for the installation of an owner-supplied inverter. I was told that was the way things were done.

Hopefully, someone else with more information can answer your question. The following depicts the Amel installation of SM 387.

Aras,

Just fitted an overhauled Hurth gearbox to my Perkins M50.

Same as Volker 2,74:1 ratio.

BTW if anyone needs a refurbished hurth gearbox I can highly recommend DRINKWAARD MARINE in the Netherlands.  I dealt with a gent called Arco - brilliant service and they gave me 300 euros back for my box.

Re: Where best to locate Raymarine Evolution Autopilot EV-1 Sensor Core on Santorin

Great, thanks Antonio, that looks to be a good position, though I think the port-side niche on my Santorin is just as good in terms of location.  Good to know that it doesn't need to be dead centre of the boat to work effectively...

Appreciate your advise on this and thanks for posting the pics....

Re: Problem dismantling the main furler worm gear box

I drilled and tapped a hole low on one side of the housing and high on the other. I use the autoprop adapter as a means to fill the gearbox.

I pump the grease in the low hole and remove the old grease from the opposite side .

Ian, thank you sssssooooo much for your detailed explanation and for the good ideas to try. I put my hands on it right away and see what happens. If you have the chance to share a picture of the holes to pump grease in, it will be very helpful. I really do appreciate your help and comments.

I made a bow sprit that sticks out about 2 /12 feet from the bow with a articulated block (Harken)..

It is about 1 ½ inches in diameter and is removable when not used.

Hallo,
When i we bought our SM2K, there was an asymmetrical spinnaker (original option with snuffer from Amel) on board but the seller couldn't tell me how to fix it at the bow of the boat. Does anybody know how Amel had planed to fix it at the bow.

Re: Fuel tank inspection port gasket

Billy Newport

I just cleaned my tank (Amel 55#56) and I had a solid/complete circular gasket. The problem on mine was fuel can made it past the gasket and was pooled in the center of the gasket. With no "hole", it can go anywhere but there or even worse it "could" get in to the captain berth. As far as I can tell on my boat, that did not happen. But, we did take more care with silicon sealant when reinstalling and we did put sealant on the bolt threads and tighten the bolts more than there were which was quite loose.
