Alex, it is common for bugs' eggs to hatch inside dried pasta, especially in the tropics. Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] MPPT solar regulateur
Hi Thomas,
The MPPT only gets warm when working hard, not hot. We do get heat from the dump resistors of the wind generator when it is working hard (not often), but we have a heat shield to protect anything from getting burnt ! Cheers Alan Elyse SM437

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] MPPT solar regulateur
Sv Garulfo
Hi Dean, the arch is not built yet but the design is to use a halfway solution, as seen on another 54, whereby the forward posts rest on the toerail at the junction of the deck and transom, while the back posts are welded onto the davits. I've also seen pictures of an arch welded on the davitts only, but the other design seems safer as the length of the fixed part of the davitts is a bit short to ensure good rigidity of the structure. That's the owner's opinion and the boat has been around the world so it has been tested. We'll provide pictures when the work is done on Garulfo, Good luck with the search cheers Thomas -- GARULFO Amel 54 #122 Cap d'Agde, France

Hi Thomas,
We have an arch with 3 panels (600W)on it and a D400 wind generator. The Victron 150-35 MPPT is mounted on the aft facing wall of the aft cabin hanging locker along with the regulator for the wind generator. Not sure if the 54 is the same as the 53 in that area. Cheers Alan Elyse SM437

Hi Thomas, Sorry can't help with the installation details - still looking at Amel 54's to buy. I'm very interested to know If you fitted a solar arch/gantry to your Simpson Davits or have you built a separate solar arch. Cheers Dean Amel 54#TBD

Hi, We have also had similar experience with weevils in pasta, rice and cereals. We cured the problem by processing these items through the freezer for 24 hours prior to storage. Very best wishes Mike & Peta Solitude SM 2K 461

Everything that contain flour will sooner or later develop bugs. Their eggs will only die if you freeze the flour. Pasta is difficult to freez. So put a Baileaf inside the package and you are bug less. The diffucult thing is to put a bail leaf inside a
fresh packet, so cut a hole big enough for the leaf and close thouroghly with some scotch.
You can do the same rhing with flour, rice and dried beans.
If you choose to freeze the flour, first re-pack it to a plastic container, seal it very carefully and then freeze it for 2-3 days. Take it out of the freeze and store it in a better place. You will still be able to bake with the
flour. The freezeing doesn't affect it. The warmth is worse because it will dry the flour out, so when baking you need to use more liquid. I froze flour when we left Sweden in 2010, still have some left, yes I bought a lot 😊, and there is no bugs and I still
use it for baking.

Re: Mystery Pasta Bug
They aren't getting through the plastic... they're already inside! Not sure of the bug type but they like to lay their eggs by the glue holding the cardboard together. I never bring cardboard on the boat for that very reason.

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Mystery Pasta Bug [1 Attachment]
Hi Alex,
That looks like a grain weevil or wheat weevil. They can eat through plastic bags to get to food. They like pasta, rice and anything with flour.
Any type of household bug spray will kill them but it will take a few treatments since you probably some that are not yet hatched.
We store our pasta in plastic airtight containers: https://www.amazon.com/Biokips-Storage-Spaghetti-Noodle-Container/dp/B06VWPWQP9/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1496079860&sr=8-4&keywords=pasta+container
On the bright side, they are harmless and probably a good source of protein if digested.
Hope this helps.
With best regards,
Mark

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] MPPT solar regulateur
Hi Thomas and Soraya,
I am not sure how close the 53 is to the 54 but it think you could do the same as I did. I am assuming you have the solar panels mounted aft on an arch? Is so, consider mounting the MPPT in the ceiling area above the mid-ship bunk in the passage way leading to the aft cabin (where there is access to the winches). It is easy to run cables through the aft lazarette though the cabinets in the aft stateroom into the fore mentioned area. Also, it is an easy run from this area down through the cabinet to the battery compartment.
Hope this helps.

Mark

Hi Amel Solar users,
Where did you install your MPPT regulator?
We are looking to get a MasterVolt "scm60-mppt-mb" that would work with 3*300W / 39V (Voc) panels in series but I'm concerned it is quite tall (400mm/15.7inch) and needs to be installed vertically. On the plus side it is MasterBus compatible like the rest of our system, so easy to integrate and monitor.
Any advice on the best location inside an A54?
Fair winds,
Thomas & Soraya

The following will likely help you find a clothes washer replacement for either an Amel 54 or a Super Maramu 2000, and possibly other Amels since Amel has typically used house hold washers: https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/amelyachtowners/photos/albums/911367118/lightbox/876040189?orderBy=ordinal&sortOrder=asc&photoFilter=ALL#zax/876040189 The clothes washer in a SM2000 is a standard EU size which is 85X40X60cm (HxWxD). I have not seen a size for the front loading washer on the 54. When we were in Barcelona Spain there were about 6 or 7 choices of brands/models that would fit perfectly. We bought a Bosch Series 4. The model number plate is attached to this email. Here is a link to Unieuro's current washer offerings: I am sure that you can find a freight forwarder that can work with Unieuro, and you may be able to find the right size for an Amel 54...I wish I knew the size. BTW, our clothes washer was working fine when we replaced it at 13 years old. We replaced it for two reasons: it was old and we were in a part of the world where replacement was easy. Consider this if you are in the EU and about to depart. If someone is successful in arranging purchase and shipment using a freight forwarder from EU to North America or the Caribbean, please share the details with everyone here.
