The screw and washer, if it has one, would be under the single foam donut which should be contact-cemented in place over the lip seal. The screw and washer, if it has one, holds the lip seal in place,

The reason I say if it has one, is I have seen Amel SMs without this screw and washer, and with no hole. I am not sure why because I believe that you would want to make sure that when the tube is raising that it does not pull the seal up with it.

There are plenty of photos in the Photo section and there are procedures in the Files section.

Tom,

My first thought is that you have had a "de-Ameling" modification by previous owner(s)...I think it is serious and needs to be addressed. There are plenty of photos of how it should be. 

From the view you posted we should see 1 neoprene donut seal that has been contact-cemented over a lip seal which is normally held down by a screw with a washer. The lip seal and the top side donut I spoke of earlier seal the outside water from coming into the boat when the bow thruster is DOWN. There are also 2 neoprene donut seals contact cemented to the top of the bow thruster foot...these two seal the outside water from coming into the boat when the bow thruster is UP with its safety pin engaged. It is a simple and reliable system.

It really disturbs me when I see someone try to outsmart this Amel design...I know that was not you.

To me it looks as you have the neopren seals glued on top of the lip seal. We have one neoprene seals inside the hull just lose on the shaft, and two neoprene seals o the shaft below waterline. I do not think the lip seal that sometimes is fixed with the two screws and the washers do seal very much. The reason for my assumption is that when service the bow thruster in the water, one tape the shaft to seal from water penetrating into the shaft. The tape passes through the lip seal and thus do not seal very much. The important seals are the neoprene seals, two below waterline md one above the waterline.
We have no problem with water intrusion even when slamming hard into the waves in rough weather but we change the neoprene seals A year ago, and will probably change them bi annually

I believe in the original design, only the power to the radio memory or radio clock is supposed to be truly permanent.

My Fusion stereo has one (+) that is for "battery", i.e., a permanent connection.  This power input powers the clock inside the Fusion only, and this power input is incapable of powering up the Fusion itself.  Power is provided by the "permanent" DC-DC converter.

There is another (+) into the Fusion which is for "switched power", i.e., a switchable power connection.  This power input powers the balance of the stereo functions.  This power is supplied by a different DC-DC converter than the one that supplies the permanent connection.

I would not connect anything else to the permanent power supply.

Thanks, I did not think of the radio presets.

In my case I think I will sacrifice radio presets for ease of cutting all power quickly.  I already switched my VHF and AIS transceiver to the Funk power switch.

That is a great price for a finished fabricated strap!  Unfortunately for me, the shipping costs from Germany to the USA would probably triple the cost.

One thing I left out of my post is that I actually own a company that does metal machining and fabrication work so I don't pay retail price for metal. My cost on that copper piece is actually about $36 or ~30 Euros.  I used the retail prices for the comparison since most people don't have wholesale accounts with metal suppliers.
